Title: Change of Direction - New Amp Time?
Post by: MrBump on May 26, 2011, 09:12:49 PM
I'm reappraising my needs as a gigging guitarist, and might be looking for a new amp.

I'm really - and I mean really - loving the tone I'm getting from my Rat Little Giant - single channel, switchable between single 6L6 and EL84, low/mid/high tone stack and a mast volume plus a footswitchable boost.  I love the simplicity, and it's just about loud enough - but for most gigs, I think I'd want just a little more headroom.

Ideally, I'd like a similar thing in a 2 X 10 combo format - maybe a 2 x 12, but I'd ideally like to keep size and weight down.

I've had a quick look around on that there internet, but can't see much fromt the more well known manufacturers...

What's out there for me?

Mark.

I don't know what your budget is but for places where space is tight I use a Marshall 2554 1 x 12 combo and it's ace. Switchable between 25 and 50 watts, and sounds great IMO and is really compact. And they hold there value well so you wouldn't lose if it didn't work out.

Laney VC30 2 x10? Other than that, of you like the tone you are getting then is is possible to mic the amp through the bands PA? when you need a bit extra.
