Post by: JDC on June 01, 2011, 01:27:03 AM
I have a friend asking me how much it would cost to add an fx loop to his jcm 800, I haven't got a clue and didn't have much luck on google, any idea guys?

depends on what you want - you can add a purely passive 'loop' which is just two jacks inserted before the phase inverter (Ceriatone-style), or the MetroAmps one which I believe is FET driven, or you could add another valve to run the effects loop (though this would change the amp's tone somewhat).

It appears he wants the loop so he can change the level for leads; it is the Kerry King signature if that makes any difference.

He tried pedals in front but it isn't boosting enough, I am guessing this is due to him going for a metal tone and so the amp is already highly saturated, turning down the gain makes it sound too AC/DC for him.

if he just wants a level boost for solos, he could have a tech fit a relay and switch between two master volume pots - could install the second master on the back panel.
