Apart from that he's a real nice bloke as it seems. And he PLAYS them, ain't just a collector.

Does nothing for me... meh... lots of expensive guitars.
I'm more interested in what it would sound like if he ran all those amps at the same time! :D
-
I'd like to see more of the guitars themselves & the amps

I wouldn't know where to begin and where to end with all those guitars. I wouldn't mind a few of them though :D

I've got mates with '59 LPs, '52 teles etc. They're great guitars, but just guitars.

At least you don't have to think about the meaning of life or your purpose in the world. Keeping those in tune, strings fresh and guitars clean and maybe even tubes biased and good will keep you busy for the rest of your days.

Aaargh, I'll have to wait until I get home to see the pictures! Bloody work computer. :x

You'll love it. He has some nice Juniors with dogears, too!

Me too. :x
I don't think I would like to have that many guitars though. Seriously.
-
I can't see a single Fender tweed amp there.
-
Is the '66 SG Jr a white one with a batwing sctatchplate and a Maestro? I saw a picture of him playing one of those on his website.
Definite GAS!
-
I struggle to find enough time to play the one guitar I use. I guess I'm just not a collector :)
-
wow
is that like an old mill or a castle or something?

I absolutely feel you on that one!
I always feel I have no right to buy another guitar, because the ones I have don't get enough playtime. :(
-
the collective price of all those guitar stands are worth more than all the gear i own :?
-
C'mon guys why not? If you've got toot and you like guitars why not splash out. I've got 16 and although now I can only afford another every 2 or 3 years if I had money I'd need a warehouse and I suspect the same from most if not all of you.
-
Great collection but I would hate string change time.
-
Seen the photos now. Holy Sh!t!! :o

Yep, that's the '66. Great guitar. It's a little worn, but plays and sounds great.

It's a killer historic building owned by the city. We rent it out for rehearsals before tour, etc. It's a great space...
-
hey man, welcome to the forum!
-
To be fair I'd be the same with vintage race cars if I had the cash and space to indulge myself.

Stupid strings.
-
I personally dont see the point of having so many, i dont feel id be able to give each one the playing time they deserved
-
62 strat? Must be one hidden somewhere :D
Nice collection
-
this speaks to me a bit more
-
this is nice too...

Those are nice - all "vintage" US models, presumably?
I personally dont see the point of having so many, i dont feel id be able to give each one the playing time they deserved
It's funny, I've been selling a few guitars recently and it seems to have given me a clear-out "bug". I'm looking at all my guitars and thinking "what are all these for?". Not sure I could ever do a Twinfan and get down to just a handful though. :?

I thought the thread was gonna be about you when I first saw the title, ha ha

Nah, I'm just a beginner compared to this chap!

Thanks!

Nice collection
Ha! Unfortunately, no '62. I'm more of a maple neck Strat guy, though I do have a nice '65 and '66 that were both mint until I knocked an AC30 over on 'em at a session recently. Ouch...
-
That's a lucky guy. I would not even have a place to store all that gear.

How the hell did you knock an AC30 onto it! Hope they're OK?

Yep. If I had the cash and the room to spare, I'd definitely double or triple my current collection within a couple of years.
To the owner of the collection posted : cheers man! Most excellent!

Yeah, a few dings, but they are ok. Just a shame as they were way clean before this.

Just out of interest, how do they play and sound in comparison to a modern custom shop or masterbuilt instrument?
-
Which one have you been playing most lately SP?
-

It's the storage space under PhillyQ's bed where he keeps his spare guitars
-
Here is Carl from Rockbottom Music a few years ago (way before they burnt his shop down in the riots)
A few Marshalls - he has my 1965 JTM45 now as well

More AC30s than Brian May!

Is that his house?

My '56 Goldtop with P90s has been my go to guitar for the past 10 years. The '59 feels and plays better than any other guitar I own and gets a lot of use, too.

I'd say a modern CS is easier and not as quirky to play. With some of the older guitars you have to fight 'em a bit, but I like that. I like that each one feels different, though I did have a recent CS Jeff Beck strat that I loved but recently sold. That was the nicest new Strat I've played.
-
I have 3 vintage strats (57, 60 & 63), and 3 vintage teles (58,59 (slab board) & 62). This gives me a maple, slab board and veneer board for the Strats and Teles. I also have an MIJ 62 tele. In terms of neck shape, the MIJ matches the real 62, however the 'feel' is really different. All of them are different to each other, but they are all very different to newer ones. The only new 'relics' that have the same feel are my Bravewoods (though my 56 Bravewood used the 57 V-neck as a template. I haven't owned a CS, but I've picked them up in the music stores. I know you really need to have it in the house to tell but in terms of the feel, they were closer than the MIJ.
The old maple necks have a different feel to the newer ones, though the one I would like to try is the Eric Johnson. My 63 strat has a much fatter neck than my 60, which gives it a bit more sustain, though I love the feel of the 60 neck. Pickup wise, the 62 tele is the only one that doesn't have BK's (when I got the Tele's they were good buys because they had SD's on them). The original 62 set is so close to the Yardbird BK set, that I would say this is what Tim had in mind when he set them up. My 58 has a set of original Black Guard flattops on it.
The Strats have different pickups, the 57 has Apaches, the 60 & 63 have originals (though one of the 60's was rewound by Tim). There seems to be more 'ring' in the older guitars when you compare them to newer ones, though the pickups can help there.
I've also got some other old guitars, 53-58 converison LP, 54 LP, 59 LP Jnr, 60 LP Special, 63 Firebird III, 63 Thunderbird IV, 65 Fender Electric XII, 65 SG Jnr, 66 Precision Bass, 67 ES-335, 72 John Birch J1, 73 Rickenbacker 4001, 74 LP 55 Special and some 60's Silvertones. The biggest difference that I see with them is the woods. They are typically much lighter than the newer ones (except my Electric XII, which weighs a ton!). This could be why they seem to be a bit more resonant.
I have to say that a lot of the newer guitars are getting closer to the feel of the older ones, and they are a lot easier to take out!

no seven string ? :P

Haha. Not yet!
