Post by: Modular1 on June 03, 2011, 09:18:18 PM
Got the amp yesterday and the cabinet turned up today. Really happy with the results so far. Just need to get the speakers broken in.

It's the HT1-RH 1w head and the HT408 4x8 speaker cabinet. I intend to get a second cab for a ministack hehe.

Ps. It's not that loud at all. At half volume you can talk over it. At full volume it sounds satisfyingly cranked without rattling the windows or too much fear that I will be pissing the neighbours off (though it might still do hehe).

I must get it away from the radiator too. :/

I live a 30 second walk from my local pub and on an open mike night I walked down with a guitar and my 2 watt Microcube. I had the cube on just less than half volume and was asked to turn it down.

Boutique is overrated anyway ;) I'll take functionality over prestige anyday!

As for the amp, I can safely say it's a cracking little thing. My local BKP dealer has one in the store for trying out guitars, and it really is a lovely little thing. Very versatile, and it can do metal tones VERY well indeed. And the pricetag is quite humane!

What sounds would you say it does best?

I'm not really an expert reviewer of kit tbh, having only owned a champion 600 and a Marshall solid state amp. To my ears with my warpigs it does a pretty good sabbath tone on the British end of the ISF. It's nice and twangy with my stock USA strat on the American end of the ISF. it breaks up nicely on the clean channel when played harder. The overdrive channel can do a pretty decent metal tone and sounds a hell of a lot better than the Blackstar ht-dual pedal I have. The cab seems to have a nice tight tone to my ears.
I'll mike it up once I get my holy diver in my USA strat. That pup sounds a bit brash in my frankenstrat. I think that's down to the shiteety finish. That guitar certainly doesn't have the nice unplugged tone of the fender that's for sure.
All in all I'd say it's a rock amp on the more Marshall end of things.

Cool, I really like little amps and considered getting one of these.

It's surprising how loud a 1W amp actually is when you turn the bugger up.

I have tried the combo version of this amp and I quite liked the sound of it, The britsih and american end of the ISF are pretty convincing... I wasn't too sure about the in-between settings. Are you using the middle of the range of the knob? Does it give you sound you like?

I would have bougth one of these if I hadn't come across the Tweaker in the following couple of hours.

I dont use it set between 9 oclock and 3 oclock i find. I find its best between 7-9 and 3-5. There is no other tone controls on this version. On the blackstars with bass/mid/treb it makes a more subtle difference depending on your midrange setting. Its kind of like a mid-sweep eq on their other amps/pedals.

I really want to get a second cab to have one cab not so close to the floor. It obviously sounds a lot better with the speaker more at head level.
