I recorded this one at HJM's at the same time as the Miracle Man and Mule demo clips. Amp settings are the same as the other clips and no extra EQ added at the desk.
Guitar: HJM's RG550
Amp:JCM800 50watt-stock
Effects: TS9 overdrive
The rhythm track was cut with the bridge pickup, the little clean sections are neck pickup. I used both bridge and neck pickups on and off throughout the lead sections.
Hope you like it and let me know what you think. PDT_045

Oh I forgot to say-I'm a LP player and I did this one on HJM's RG550 which means....whammy bar!Sorry, I haven't messed with one of those for years so I might have over done it a little PDT_004

That sounded awesome mate! I know where I'll be spending my lunchbreaks at the LGS :)
-
Sick dude!
Sounds like a cross between Pantera and Godsmack.
Curious how it would sound over a Mesa Recto.
-
Little bit of that Lynch swagger going on here ... I like it!
Reminds me a bit of the band HELLION, if you really know yer 80's metal.

The same. The 1st guitarist in HELLION was a student of Randy Rhoads, actually. Listen carefully and you can hear some 'standard' Rhoads scales in there ... :)

I loved that so much I felt compelled just to congratulate you and scrounge those opening chords off you!
It's so big and evil and looming... it's like the rock music equivalent of King Rat entering the stage to green lights and boo-hiss. I will love you forever (and buy a pickup or two when I get my GS built) if you tell me what those chords are :D
Thanks!

Oh well, seeing as you put it like that-Fflat 5,Eflat 5 played against open high E and B - sorry, you'll have to ask HJM for the proper names, I just play the stuff
-
Erm , it's early, but in my book that's F major 7 b5 (no third) and
E b5 #11 (no third), technically they're both suspended chords, as there's no third.... my brain hurts now, I need coffee...
-
Erm, my chord dictionary tells me that the chords listed could be any one of about 16 different open chords... sometimes new technology can be a double edged sword (unlike a double-edged sword, which is old technology...)
Any chance of tab diagrams? Pretty please? I'll tell all my friends that you actually invented rock'n'roll.

Hey Eddie, it's me Mupps!
I think you should send that Mp3 Shackers' way, he is pretty good at figuring out chords by ear.
Andy!
-
It's an Fflat 5 power chord shape played with the root in the 8th fret with open E/B strings followed by the same Eflat 5 shape at 7th fret also with open E/B strings-chord names as HJM suggested
-
Thanks very much, ye are a gentlemen and a gentle man. Sorry I haven't replied sooner, I'm lazy and hadn't checked...
I may be emailing you soon with some RW/RP-related technical questions.
Thanks again,
- Ed

Hmmm........ I thought that it was the guy from Grim Reaper that did the upside down tapping thing?[/i]

No, Nick Bowcott was a lefty. The Hellion guy was the upside down tapper.

Yep, one of the few well-known southpaw guitarists.
-
I could swear I saw the guitar player from Grim Reaper flip his guitar and continue playing in one of their videos on VH1 Classic. I guess I could be wrong. But it was one was of the coolest things i've ever seen.
-
He might've. To my knowledge, Grim Reaper only made 2 videos. The 1st one was the no-frills See You In Helll, followed by the deliciously camp and over the top Fear No Evil.
There's a great autobiography in 3 parts that are in the Spitfire re-issues of the Grim Reaper catalog ... (god, I'm such a geek!!)

Hi Tim,
I was trying to find what settings you used on the clip, as far as gain, trb, mid and bass, presence. Also you used the same settings on the other clips right?
Thanks
-
Amp-stock JCM800 50 watt head into a 2 x 12.
Bass 10
Mid 6
Treble 7
Presence 2
Gain 10
Master 1.5
I use this setting on any JCM800 and it's a pretty good starting point-master vol is usually 2.5 but keep in mind I use 2 JCM800ZW 100w in stereo live.

i just creamed my pants listening to that!
that's SWEEEEEET!!
and that's pretty much the sound i'm after.
AMAZING sound, clarity and tone!
-
:D im absolutely gobsmacked i nearly bought EMG Zak Wylde set jesus mother of christ BareKnuckle's do rock!!!! the solo tone sounded awesum n beutiful and had sooo much more crunch in the rythm part of the demo than EMG'S. I aint heard the WarPig yet but it's got me tingly with excitement!!! i have a maverick x1 and the x1 humbucker have nuthing on these bar-stewards. Tim congratulations you made an awesum pickup lineup that beats EMG hands down. I shall be buying my warpig's and nailbomb humbuckers very soon 8)
-
wooow that sounded great! I want that PRS to load with either Warpigs, Miracle Men or Nailbombs
-
first post!!! nice clip!
im still really undecided as to which pup set i want, its either the nailbomb, miracle man or the warpigs! any suggestions. im after a tone similar to jon shaffer's from iced earth, he has such a crunchy tone, but also very clean if you know what i mean, i want something that can really cut through and be heard, coz up till now, my sound is always underneath our other guitarists. but still, any suggestions, ...
-
Welcome...the Nailbomb has the mids to cut through anything! :)
-
i've been leaning more towards thwe nailbomb from the start to be honest, i think the war pig, as good as the very high output sounds, might be a bit too much for me.
but will the NB give the shaffer tone im after?
-
Somebody else will have to answer that....sorry not heard any!
-
lol, thats ok no worries,
anyone like iced earth, lol?
-
Not a fan, but the nailbomb will do the job.
I have a set, if you PM me what you want to hear, i can have ago doing it. Check out some of my other clips. I think the shadows fall clip maybe what your looking for.
-
i just listened to your clips, nice one, both clean and diiiirty tones are cool, im gonna order a set later on today!!!
does it matter whether i have open or covered...coz they are going in a white strat with maple neck/fingerboard, and the normal colour woould look a bit silly....if i have them open it'll be white, covered, chrome/nickel.
but does it affect the sound at all?

No covers don't affect sound on BKP's as Tim winds them to match an uncovered set. Hope this helps.
-
well i think im gonna most likely get an uncovered set in white, what wil that do...
-
I'm not entirely sure I understand the question but having white open coils will not change the sound of the pickup in any way. So it will be just like the sound in the demo, depending upon your guitar and set-up of course.
-
you answered the question whether you understood it or not, lol, cheers. cool, il lbe ordering them later on today when i get home.
by the way, love your sig, how true!!! lol!!!
-

Excellent, glad I could help, hopefully ill be getting myself a nailbomb after christams when the £££ roll in! Hope you enjoy your Nailbombs.
Regards
-
oh i shall, ill post some clips when i can, have no way to record, but ill get a mate of mine to record me playing.
-
YEAAAAAH!!! they came this morning, i'm extrememly chuffed with them, and ive nto installed them into the guitar yet, coz i haent got the guitar back yet, still not finihsed being built. should have it by the end of the week, then ill get some recordings done!
everyone at BKP, cheers, you guys have been great, keep up the good work!!
-
Excellent
-
okay I was going to make a thread asking this but thought i'd get a better reponse here :)
What does 'organic' tone actually mean?
I'm thinking of getting a Nailbomb for Neck solos (and rhythm) and it's for my SG. what do you think?
-
Organic = pure, unadulterated, raw.In this context it's refering more to the aggresive mid range presence the Nailbomb has.Punchy without being nasal or hinky.
-
Or in laymans terms, wicked!!
-
Absolutely
-
how did you get such a punchy sound on your recording
its gotta be more than just compression
and how did you manage to have your output volume so loud without clipping? no matter how compressed ect i make my recordings they always have clipping untill i turn everything down waaaaaay too much what am i doing wrong compared to what your doing so right?
ps that recording was bloody unreal so well made! the playing and production was top class
you have a really wild playing style thats pretty original but still sounding like heavy metal its just excelent

Nothing was added when I recorded it, any compression is coming from the amp and OD pedal, the whole thing took a couple of hours to do against a click and then HJM went in and put some drums to it.
-
wow congrats for such a great sound the playing just has me in awe of your style (it dosent sound impossably but just well played with nice phrasing ..... basically the right notes at the right time)
are you using pro tools or what?
through a 2203?
basically finding this clip has made me regret getting emgs... i'll eventually replace them with the nailbombs but due to a lack of cash it may take a while
-josh
-
hey
i just got a jcm 800 too (but 100w 2203) how do you get that kinda gain from it
apart from the kick ass pickups what pedal gives that (most distortion pedals dont have the nice harmonics i want and are just too harsh- what pedal are you using overdrive? they have the harmonics but not the gain!!!
-
in this clip it's a Maxon OD-9 . Pretty nice huh?
-
damn right
it sounds sweet!!!
-
hey! sorry to keep asking questions but its just a $%&#ing cool recording
any way i was wondering if the backing chords were in a particular key which they dont sould like they are (could be wrong my ears shite) and if they arnt how did you go about writing them? im just interested in understanding all aspects of theory and this just baffles me! if you did take this approach how did you then write the solo over it?
last question: are you just generating feedback for those howling notes in the intro about 4 secs in and in the outro? i've heard zakk wylde do the same thing but have never figured it out (could be as i have been using a pedal straight into the input since i hadnt a decent amp untill recently and havent yet been able to record with it)
(gonna get the nailbomb sometime soon if $%&#ing sounds great)
-josh
-
The tracks in Em and the long notes are purely sustaining notes played close to the amp cab helping them to feed back alittle.
-

THis track was a classic case of finding something that sounds great by ear, it can be better to work this way and save the theory for analysing afterwards!
-
the whole tracks in Em? even the first half of the solo before the first fast run?
you didnt even change mode over a certain chord or something?
-
Just picking out chord tones and messing with the b5 alittle but predominantly good old Em.
-
hi, really like this tone for high gain stuff, it's kinda got a Satch meets Wylde vibe to it. The guitar sound is very similar to the sound satch got on his 'Flying in a blue dream' album. Kinda raw with lots of upper midrange agression. NICE
-
Tim do you use 50 watt head for recording into 2X12 to control volume or usually use 2203?
How are Nailbombs in LP mahagony guitars?
-
That sounds f'in badass.
-
I usually use a 100w head.
-
What's the average output on the Nailbomb, and when was the first one manurfactured?
-
DC15.9K and I made the first one back 2003.
-
Wow , those nailbombs sound good!!!!
-
love my Nailbombs!
-
anyone like iced earth, lol?
I do not like it....I adore it. 8)
Myself choose this pickup in a bridge postion...But I`ve got 2 months more to wait till I get rid of bank credits...Ahhww...Time passing so slowly when you wainting for something special. 8)

Nick Bowcott is currently Director of Marketing and Artist Relations at Marshall USA, having previously held the same position at Jackson/Charvel, so some of you have probably seen him at industry events. Here's a recent video of him promoting the Yngwie Malmsteen signature amp.

Hi, great demo that's really got me interested in a set of Nailbombs. Just wondering though which version of the pickup were you using - Alnico or Ceramic?

I'm pretty sure it is the original alnico version. The ceramic model is more recent, and was apparently called a 'custom' for a while (same with the ceramic version of the Warpig) until it became a common enough order (like the Pig 90 too) that it became a production variant. The pickup in this sample also has the characteristic mids of the A-bomb.
