since i installed a brown sugar set (uncovered neck p/up) on my mexican tele, there's been a horrible crackling anytime i touch the pickguard, which (of course) i do ALL THE TIME! it's driving me nuts. clean/dirty-it makes no difference. any ideas? i'm sure it's not much, but i'd rather not have it, to be honest... :wallbash:

sounds like static interferance. Some pick guards genorate it more than others, its nothing to do with the pickups, and I must say this isn't the first time Ive heard of it. We had a customer who's strat pick guard was doing it. You may need to get a new one, you can pick them up quite cheap.

try a piece of foil or copper under the pickguard near where your fingers rub, or all over the guard if you want. and run a wire from it to ground - it's a fiddle to do but will cure the problem!

hi,
actually, it was a new pickguard-a nice fancy pearloid job....that's when it started.....i'll try the old one back on.
is there nothing that could be done other than replacing the pickguard tho' as i really like the pearly one-apart from the fact that it cost me a few quid to buy, and i really would like to use it.

thanks-i think the foil reply came as i was typing my previous reply. i'll definately try that.
thanks a lot, guys!

What are the Brown Sugars like - apart from the pick guard crackle or can you not tell yet?

the brown sugars are amazing! i'm not very good at describing sound or tone or whatever-i just know they sound great! the crackling is quiet compared to the 'sound' of the pickups, really, it's just a bit irritating.

hjm,
nice one mate! it's sorted-thanks for your help.
guitar sounds amazing now without the irritating crackle!! :P
