Anybody have any experience with this? It'd be to go in a very bright LP Custom to match the bridge unit.
I was wondering if anyone knew how it sounded, PAFish, dark rounded, sweet kind of tone?
Cheers!

Looking at the EQ-chart, the Emerald has less bass then a lot of other vintagehot-pu's. And quite some highs. Should be a great set with a darker sounding Les Paul, but if your guitar is already on the bright side I would look at a Mule- or an Abraxas-neck.

I can't quite get my head around the idea of a Les Paul that is 'very bright'. It just doesn't seem right but on topic, I believe an Abraxas works well in a brighter mahogany guitar.

The Emerald neck isn't that bright - rounded and sweet I would say (from my experience).

Bear in mind the EQ chart is for the bridge pickup, not the neck. And the neck is alnico IV, not alnico V.
Just to be clear, have you already got an Emerald bridge in your LP Custom, or something different?
-
That's a good one. Maybe there should be an eq-chart for the neck too. A lot of work, but would be helpfull since there are so many questions about neckpu's.
-
Yeah, EQ charts for the neck pickups would be nice.
But I think in a way they're more important for the bridge models, because neck-position pickups are more "forgiving" - most pickups sound at least "OK" in the neck position.
And some of the neck models are fairly similar - e.g. Mule, Crawler and Abraxas neck models aren't identical, but they're basically all variations on AIV PAF-types, whereas the bridge models are quite different.
-
You're right. Nevertheless it would be helpfull as so many players like mix different pu's instead of choosing a calibrated set.

Cheers guys, I tried it and loved it - the Emerald set is the one for me it would seem. However, despite being wax potted the neck Emerald squeals at higher gain, seems like something's gone wrong there?

Sounds like it might need re-potting. I'm sure that must be covered under the BKP warranty.
