Ooops I seem to have forgotten to issue the Fender prophylactics. Either that or they were reliced and had holes in 'em.
Anyway, I seem to have acquired another Strat.

I've been told by the misses she officially thinks I'm mental. Result!
-
Nice one! I like that.
As far as the mental bit goes I knew that within a few minutes of meeting you in Manchester.
-
Nice, wouldn't mind that myself but I'm lucky if I can buy new strings at the minute! :(
-
I like the one on the left, despite the relicing.
-
^ Agreed... I used to be so meticulous when it came to my guitars, but now I actually like the fact that the finish has rubbed off on a few areas... it definitely makes the guitar MINE.
But back on topic... nice Strat! I've always been more of a metal player, so Strats have sort of been last on my list of guitars I need... but lately I've had some serious GAS for a nice Strat and Tele.
-
Very nice, really like the finish on that. If they breed again and you can't find house room for 'em, drop me a line. ;)

I think the question that shuld be asked is
Who had sex with it?
Nice guitar mate

it definitely got its mothers shapely figure and colouring, but its fathers lack of hygiene and scruffyness

Who's scruffy looking?
Runs away into the distance in giggling and orgling like a wookie!

Laugh it up furball!
It is indeed funny: I don't like the whole relicing trend (I mean new guitar made to look hold - if it is "self" inflicted that is another business though) and I don't like Strats, but somehow I like your new acquisition. New gear rocks! How does it play?
-
It plays very well, it's a lot brighter than the rosewood boarded one the left. They've both set up with highish actions to give me a bit of a fight, but that's the way I like 'em.
I think the ash body on the new one makes a difference as well when compared with the alder one. They're both resonant but no where as bollock shaking as my Nocaster when you play it.
I probably should say that the one on the right is the one of the limited 62 Brazilian rosewood fingerboard run they did in 2010. Whils the new one is the 2010 Q1 58 limited editions, one of 30 made I believe.
The neck profiles are quite different with the 58 having what fender call the 10/56 profile, which is a big soft V, whilst the 62 is a big C shaped palm filler. Both are very comfy but I need to live with thenew one for a bit longer before I can say which I prefer. Neither is as large as my Nocaster which is a monster of an U. The radiuses are a modern 9.5 and the frets are narrow and high.
Weight wise there's not much in it from holding them and I'm not going to put them on scales as I'm not that anal. Neither are the lightest strats I've played, but they're also not the heaviest.
Pickup wise the I'll have to give it a bit more time, but from what I've heard so far they sound very stratty to me. I think they're all Abby '50s with a RWRP middle.
I had to have this one just because if the colour matching the one I already had, but there were some other glorious strats at the shop which if I had the budget would probably have come home with me as well. I'm impressed with the consistency of high end Fender guitars, much more so than the similar priced Gibsons I've tried. I think deep down I'm a fender man, but I can't bring myself to not like my Lester though. I'm just a guitar slut, what can I say!
It was bought from Guitars4you and Mark has a couple of insanely cracking deals on a couple of teles at the moment if anyone's interested.
Right less typing and more strumming for me now.
-
Nice! :D I love Relics and I love the anodised scratchplate too.

I am!

Can you "persuade" him to reduce that sunburst Heavy Relic Tele with a tortoise scratchplate? He's had it bloody ages but it's still full price.
-
Nice one :D
I'm not personally a big fan of candy apple, and I'm in two minds about anodised scratchplates, and I'd definitely reach for the 62 first out of those two, but she do look a beauty.
They definitely sit together nice - I fully understand your need to have both! (And the need to own all the others if you could )
I have "twins" as well: a 60s Roadworn (3-tone sunburst) and a 50s Roadworn (2-tone). People still go "why have you got two exactly the same?" ... er... fools!!
Sounds like I have similar neck profiles. Mine have the 7.25 fingerboard though, which I get on with fine, and it sounds like your 58 might have a slightly chunkier soft v than the 50s RW (but that might be my imagination because I sometimes wish it had a just a wee bit more substance to it). I'm amazed that I find both so comfortable to play when there's so many folks who seem to gravitate to one type of neck or other.
Anyway - I still can't decide which is my favourite player, even after a year of owning both. The 60s is always the one I'd keep if I had to let one go, but I go through phases of prefering to play one or the other. I reckon you might end up feeling the same with these two.
-
Congratulations. A man can never have too many Strats.
-
Nice! I like the colour and the fact it looks a little different not having the usual colour pickguard.
I wish my strat would breed but I don't think strats are asexual. Presumably you started with a pair?
Is it like the Father Ted episode with the bunnies?

I knew I shouldn't have played My Lovely Horse on the rosewood one.
I believe it was an immaculate conception as I can't find a wet patch.

Ha ha! You got it!
Nice work mate :)

The left one is a beauty.
