Does anyone know if it is safe to charge a car battery whilst it is still connected to the car? I have a Chrysler Grand Voyager with a flat battery (bumper repair guy decided to keep the boot open whilst he was repairing the bumper and then failed to shut the boot properly - I didn't notice until the next morning about 24 hours later)
Cheers!

Should be fine mate. Charge it up for a little while then try to start the car. The car should then charge the battery by itself.

Agree with Steve, although I'd just start it off another car in the morning and then drive to work.
Some batteries have a window in the top that shows the status of the battery. Might be worth having a look in that just to check it's not knackerd.

Cheers Guys, tried with another car (actually a van) with no luck. Perhaps the battery is f*cked - the car is from 2006 but I'm not sure if it is on it's first battery or not. I might leave it charging overnight and see what happens. Unfortunately I don't have a voltometer so am not sure what voltage it is putting out at the moment.

Well, to my surprise the charger worked and the car is now running fine!

Good stuff. I miss my Dad's voyager. Just that little button you press so the door closes itself
