Title: The Holy Diver, and the MM: KILLER pick ups!.
Post by: Trendkiller on January 14, 2006, 04:13:45 PM
Hi all.
I'm new to this forum, I've been here from time to time and read some cool things about BKP's.
Are they really "that" good, acc to all the raves?

Well, what can I say, IMO YES!
I've used MM, VHII's,and the "best" so far for my taste, the "Holy Diver"!

I've been through a bunch of pick-ups during the years. The faves have been TomHolmes and the Fralins. + a 25 year old Duncan Custom which sounds awesome in my main LP, a 1970 LPC.

Amps...Soldano SLO's, old Marshalls, BadCat HotCat-100, a VOXAC-30HW, and a couple of Matchless amps.
The main amp is the SLO, with an old Marshall used as a slave. Killer tone.
No fx's....just a Budda Wah.

Ok, short intro.
These days I have to say the th BKP H.D's are the most transparent, fat clear, and greasy pick-ups I've ever used. They have exactly the right output to drive the amp into smooth fat overdrive. GREAT harmonics, it's like they "jump" out of the guitar.
A while back I got these from BKP (the new revised version with the alnicoV's) , for a replacement of some "boring-lifeless" JB's in my Jackson King-V Korina.
This guitar has never sounded better, and the H.D's will be there "forever".
Real cool!
Well worth looking into! Well worth the cash spent.

The MM's are also great, I use one in the bridge on my '68 LP (transferred from P-90's to 'buckers), with a TomHolmes 450 in the neck. Great tone.
Fat and greasy, great punch, ok...Zack in spades. And I get fat Hendix-type tones from the TomHolmes in the neck. This combo is something special.

The VHII's? I've just tried out these the last week. I'm not "sure yet" what I think about the VHII. I'll come back on these a bit later on.

Anyway, the BKP's are killer pick ups. I'll def. get another pair of the HD's to one of my LP's. Real cool to have found "the" pick-up that just make me smile everytime I plug into an amp.

What a pick-up a day makes! :D  8)

ROCK!!

T.

Hi thanks.
Btw, I relieved some of of my guitars for some Duncans. The BKP's are just that much better. Even a TomHolmes bridge had to go... :(  :)
Still, I use Fralins in one LP and a Jackson Rhoads, + a TomHomes neck as mentioned in my above post.
I'm not looking after other "boutique" makers these days for great tone, the BKP's just do the job (IMO) like nothing else.
 :)

yeah, i never liked duncans much.

I'm going to get some BK's soon. I currently have swinesheads in my ibanez rg, they're really good (especially for the price), but i hear BK's are even better! I'll be getting them for some new guitars i have my eyes on!

i play through an engl savage se, by the way.

I think You will not be dissapointed by BKP's. IMO they are just in another
league compared to Duncans, DiMartzio etc...
If You talk to Tim, he will lead You in the right direction, and You'll get what tone You're looking after.
I call this GREAT customer service. Not many of these around...

Btw, ENGL amps is great stuff!

Rock! :)

(a) yeah, my SH's are in a different league to DM's and SD's, and I've been led to believe BK's are in a different league to my SH's, so I have major GAS at the moment.

(b) Thanks!

.

Hi, thanks!

Yes, I'm the one who received the aged HolyDivers. Great job with the aged covers! These looks very autentic compared to the real thing, an original PAF.
