Title: BKP Piledriver - Probably the best pickup in the world? UPDATED 7/8
Post by: ChrisTM on June 14, 2011, 07:26:03 PM
The Piledriver never ceases to amaze and astound me with how fantastic it is and how great it sounds.

An At The Gates/The Black Dahlia Murder inspired song(the Piledriver really came to its full right this time!)
Pinecaster, Mesa/Boogie Dual Rec, Recto cab, miced with an SM57 and a Sennheiser e609?

Some Post-Rock / Post-Hardcore i just recorded at home using PodFarm and Superior 2.0.
I really like the crunch tone on this one, I hope you do too!

EDIT
To prevent cluttering down the forum with new threads about the same pickup, I've decided to update this post/thread with clips as I go on recording stuff.
This way, you can hopefully find clips of this pickup doing what you like, helping you out in your choice.

I've been think of getting one of them for a while, how is it for high gain Doom Metal compared to a humbucker, does it have that humbucker sustain and drive?

Yes and yes. Frankly, I don't see me ever going back to playing humbuckers again..

Twangy metal, me likes. Very nice, not a fan of the vocals though....

hey Chris do you perhaps have any more info on the pinecaster? specs+tuning?
I myself have been toying with the idea to ask my luthier to build me a custom 7 string telecaster.. something in terms of - 'traditional wood  + modern attitude of 7 strings and chug' .. what pickup did you go with in the neck position? :) the biggest problem is to find a tele bridge

Hey dude, It is a pine bodied tele with a maple neck. It was tuned to Drop C with 12-60 gauge strings!

As for a neck pickup.. I never used one - Ha! But I think i would like the usual in there - like a Duncan '59, Jazz or perhaps even a BKP ColdSweat!?

Cheers mate.  :)
