i have a rebel yell with cover in my strat. i've experimented with various distances from strings yet haven't found that sweet spot yet.
what heights have others here used they like?
do you have the bass side a bit lower or both sides even?
-
I donīt have it in a Strat, but the bridge model in a Ibanez S, so maybe it helps a bit.
I got 3mm on the treble and about 3,7 on the bass.
But within one rotation of the screw I can in terms of bass response go from pop punk to heavy metal, at least in my feeling.
So go somewhere in that area and then be aware that a quarter of a turn can make quite the difference in searching for the sweet spot.
It really took me a long time to find the spot and I still am toying with it at times. I have that one benchmark for my setup in general, which test the PU Height and tubes for the Amp quite well for me, which is the riff from "When you were young" by the Killers. When that sounds good and definded I like the bass side. Treble test is the chorus (and intro) of "Glassgow Kiss" by John Petrucci (goes up to the high in in the 24th fret).
When those too are good, I like my setup^^

thanks Kiichi, helps me out much.
you're right, doesn't take much of a turn to notice a difference,
btw, curious what you have in the neck, middle complementing the bridge

Well, I made this Ibbie S (which is a metal axe) kinda like a Classic Rock axe, which can do heavy metal and blues, so I put a Irish Tour in the middle (great for cleans, blues, things like rage against the machine) and Mule in the neck (warm, soft and just tasty neck, but can do metal licks if distorted right).
I got the wiring set up like: neck, neck outer coil + middle, middle, middle + bridge, bridge

that's cool isee the specs for The Mule has the high treb. good choice. for me ears, i like the balanced mid, so i put the RY in the neck. i'm wiring a second pick guard for HSH. probably get the Slow Hand for mid. if i can afford i'll put another RY in bridge. it has a godwood in it now with current 5-way opts below...
1= N (Hb-Sc)
2= NxB (series, Hb-Sc)
3= N+B (parallel)
4= -NxB (out-of-phase, Hb-Sc)
5= B (Hb-Sc)
appreciate the info, cheers.
