Title: NAD - hellcat (when it arrives)
Post by: Gooby on July 01, 2011, 06:58:43 PM
Don't normally post new gear on the forum, however I am genuinely excited about this.

Had a Diezel Einstein for quite a few years which I loved, but I wanted something more versatile that I could record with and less brutal. I traded for an axe fx, while is great for recording I find it lacking in inspiration with the tone live. This I am sure could be rectified with an expensive power amp (£'s keep adding up with axe fx), but tbh I yearned for the simplicity of a head. Being an old bar-steward, my tastes have become more mellow, so the thick compressed sounds of the Einstein are not be so cool now. Saw the Hellcat on ebay and had to have it as the axe fx had just sold.

Now I have not tried the Cornford Hellcat, but am familiar with the Hurricane and MK series of heads. From everything I have heard it sits in the middle which seems perfect. Rash buy I guess but it was a very good price and there some great players using these which have the type of drive sound I am looking for.

The recording issue I am considering a palmer speaker emulator or if i don't annoy the neighbors to much a good old SM57 in front of the cab.

Down side the guy is on holiday and will have to wait a week to pick it up. I am sure it will be worth the wait.

The guy I bought my carerra off had just bought a mkii and a palmer sim which was hooked up to his Bose pa. Sounded amazing. Ask on cornford forum about this set up and u might get some good advice.

I use a Palmer Junction speaker simulator for feeding the PA at gigs, sounds great.  I've used it for recording too and it was pretty tasty - certainly nothing a bit post-production EQ wouldn't sort.

If money was no object, the best bar-none is the Faustine (sp?) - the one Pete Thorn uses.
