It always amazes me the extent to which music is ingrained in us differently. Just sounds out of tune to me!

It sounded Arabic to me. A very cool and interesting idea and guitar. I'm not sure my brain could cope with that I have enough problems with 12 notes.

It will probably end up in the hands in of some of Ibanez' virtuosos. What will come of it, no idea. Maybe some down-tuned death arab-metal?

Far as I know Steve Vai is already using a microtonal guitar at times. I think he has one with 16 notes per octave or so...not sure anymore.

I really see some interresting blues applications for that.

The guitarist from TNT was using microtonal guitars back in the 80s.

yeah, not a new idea is it

did vai not have a 17 fret per octave guitar at one point or am i remembering things wrong???

extra frets can be added to any guitar and the 1/4 tone idea can be incorporated fairly easy

I don't think it was Vai, it was Ronnie Le Tekro from TNT. And yes, the guitar has 34 frets. I wouldnt' be surprised to find that Vai has played one, also. He's nuts lol.

As long as it's not down-tuned death-to-arab metal, we should be fine :D

I've definitely read stuff with Vai where he mentioned micro-tonal scales, so I assume he had a guitar made to play that stuff on.  Or maybe he used that fretless JEM he used on the Sex & Religion album's opening track.
