I'm looking for a compressor to flatten out my Telecaster before the OD to get a little more gain and sustain, Are these any good? because they sure are cheap and I don't see myself spending much more
-
i found mine pretty noisy.
are you in the UK? I haven't tried it, but the tonerider one is a similar price, and I've been very impressed by the toneriders i have tried.
or that joyo/harley benton one is supposedly based on the ross, 29 euro on thomann (though if that's all you're buying it's 10 euro postage).
haven't tried those joyos, but if you've been keeping an eye on t'internetz recently there's been a bit of shenanigans going on regarding a boutique builder allegedly getting up to dodginess with them...

Yeah I'm in the UK, there's a old CS-1 in my local music shop for a tenner, so I'm gonna try that for a bit, If that don't do it the most I would spend on new pedals is £50 so are there any well liked products around that area that I can find in the average music store, of course my local store has to be the only one with not even a section for pedals....
-
they're fine, will fatten your tele nicely, especially for clean solo's.the cs3 has a tone control which is useful and was the standard for country players.i have the cs 2 which doesn't have this, but it's pretty much the same as the cs3 which i used to have.
there's better pedals around, (so i'm told), but for knopflery tones they do the job, are bulletproof and next to nothing 2nd hand.
-
The CS-1 is the worst Boss compressor, but at that price is worth it, if you don't like it you wont lose any money, they are quite rare.
CS-2 is the best, and the CS-3 is OK, but with a couple of simple mods is pretty good.
-
Well, it'll add to my cr@ppy tone along with the DS1, I'm not going for Claptonesque tone anyway, just the loud 8)
-
oh i just assumed you were talking about the cs3. I haven't tried the cs1. :)
-
I ain't using it for no chicken picking either, just some good old Black Sabbath style doom that makes metalcore kids cry in fear \m/
-
CS2 with the the monte allums mods is spot on, well worth it
-
I have one not getting used, PM me and I'll sell you it for £20.
-
I strongly dislike the Boss compressor.
My favorite compressor is the EBS Multicomp. It works nicely with guitars, eventhough it is a bass pedal.
The MXR compressors are good and popular choices too.
-
Way more expensive, but absolutely better compressors are: Barber Tone Press, Diamond CPR-1 and T-Rex Comp Nova. I would look for something used in this range.
-
BTW I've got the cs1 now, more than enough for my needs.
-
Try keeley 4 knob compressor
-
dynacomp is what you want, oh yeah!

thats an exact visual representation of how my dynacomp sounds when you step on it

For a tenner I dont think you can go wrong. Enjoy :D

the stock CS3 is utter bollocks.. but I like it alot with the Monte Allums kit.
