Inspired by a recent post regarding BKPs in a Tokai Loverock my thoughts have turned to my own Loverock and this summer's upgrade. Mine is a 2004 model currently with a SD CC in the bridge and a Pearly Gates in the neck. The guitar has always seemed pretty dark and as a result the neck p.up is really dark and muddy sounding (surprising, so i have heard for a PG) Anyhow, I was considering either a Mule calibrated set or a Rebel Yell bridge and Mule neck. I like a bit more oomph in the bridge but more vintage, bright tones in the neck - I even thought about the possibility of an MQ in the neck.
Any thoughts?

The MQ is def. a nice neckpickup. If your guitar has a dark voice I would look at the VHII-neck too, or a RiffRaff.

A RiffRaff should be just what the doctor orded!

The Pearly Gates is Alnico II (as is the Custom Custom, I think), so I reckon an AIV or AV neck pickup will sort out your muddiness problem.
I had a Rebel Yell bridge with an Abraxas neck which worked well enough, so I think RY and Mule would be good too. But as the guys have said above, if you want a bright neck pickup, Riff Raff is probably the way to go.

Yep, I'll back up the Riff Raff neck suggestions if you decide to go for a humbucker. I think something like the Black Dog in the bridge will probably give you the extra punch you're after, bearing in mind your current bridge pickup is AII - just moving to an AV magnet will really up the amount of power at your disposal. You might even find a Riff Raff set plenty for you: in an LP the bridge Riff Raff can chug and grind with the best of them.
