Title: Which guitar would a Painkiller sound best in?
Post by: ElectricTurkey4369 on July 06, 2011, 09:12:55 PM
A 10 pound solid mahogany les paul or a maple neck through, mahogany wings guitar?

Both would be tuned down to C# standard.

only your ears can tell you that

as a les paul addict, that would be an easy dilemma for me
my '73 custom is 10.6 lbs, by the way
heaviest les pauls are usually very punchy and dense sounding
mine is also very percussive, but I think that might be related to the neck profile, which is VERY thin

The answer here is "Yes."

PK's are so upper-midrangey, they sound fantastic in mahogany, it's a great balance. The maple neck-thru will obviously sound much brighter, but I *think* the mahogany wings will balance it out.

I love them in my basswood bodied, maple bolt-on guitar, so I think the neck-thru would be great, and the all-mahogany would be fantastic!
