Title: HSS set with HD & irish tours.. anybody?
Post by: herbychimp on July 11, 2011, 08:56:44 PM
Would be interested in any comments on this set. I already have the HD in a hard-tailed strat bridge and love the sound of the ITs more than the clips that I have heard of the trilogies or slowhands - I really wan that s/c soundin neck and middle. If anybody has this combo (it must be pretty tasty as it is also a HSS set), how does the balance between the two work out? I figure tha i would have to change my switch as well as I currently have doubleblade dimarizos in neck (BC something) and middle (chopper) and the switch does a funny splitting thing.

I have the Crawler/Irish Tours-combo in my swampashstrat (MXG, made by Patrick Eggle). Crawler splits great with the middle-IT. Neck-pickup is too die for. Also the four pos. is very tasty with typical Fender-quack. The Holy Diver sounds a bit more modern then the PAF-ish hotrodded Crawler, but will split great too, I reckon. The Diver beefs up strats in the most pleasant way, lots of forummembers stated. It has balls for heavy rock and metal, but does clean up well. I think it's a great HSS-set for a strat.

(Btw, a VHII/Mother's Milk-set just arrived for my Fender American standard HSS-strat. The VHII is great when you dig in, with lots of harmonics.)

I have it..sort of :) My HSS strat originally had Nailbomb-+2x Irish tour. Now it has a HD-Irish tour - Trilogy suite.
HD is higher output than the single coils, that's pretty natural. The Irish tour neck gives a wonder SRV tone, and with higher gain, it thickens up too.

I'm actually thinking about putting the IT back in. I originally replaced it when I replaced the NB with HD. I do like the thick punch of the Trilogy suite, but I also love the bite the IT had. I wonder if the slowhand would sort of combine the two 8) But I just might put the IT back in just to try it, as I eq the amp with this guitar differently (HD vs. NB).
