This will be the last one for a while, but here it is! Thanks to Plastercaster getting rid of the spare Tokai he had I have now ended up with his lovely Jap Tokai...and man is it fine! He mentioned that its a LS85F from 2002 which is 2 piece back with flamed maple top! Lovely finish on it (though I might strip it to plain kinda like Paul Kossoff's) & I've got some new pots pickups etc coming....good times abound!
-
Can you please stop this behaviour - it is giving me GAS.
Nice score though - looks great!
-
Very nice plank, bro. These Tokai's are great value.
-
What's going on with all these NGDs? You're becoming the new Twinfan!
Nice catch though, Tokai make great guitars (even though I always seem to end up selling all the ones I buy)
-
Great LP! :D

Thanks Guys. Philly, I got rid of 2 & got 2 in, the lil bitch project has been going on since February and has finally come to fruition, but I genuinely think I'm sorted now for guitars (yeah right!). I looked at my guitar stand & there's 4 strats, 2 tele's, 3 LP's (a-likes) & 2 acoustics. Not including the2 strats in the lofts (back from when I 1st started) I think I better quit for a while and just work on my playing
However I am looking to get rid of one of the strats :?
New Twinfan my arse, nobody is taking that role

Hey guys - I've stopped. One handed counting remember!
Nice Tokai, they're great geetars.

If you were from Fleetwood you could have 6 guitars and still be within this rule

Yeah, I was being a teensy bit hypocrital there....
(I think I've bought six or seven guitars in the last six months - not to mention various necks, bodies etc - and only got rid of three....)
-
I don't recall seeing that many NGD threads Philly - what have you been buying?
I have bought 0 guitars in the last 12 months. A new record for me!
-
I might've got the timeframe a bit wrong, Ian - but there was the doublecut Tokai Junior (now sold*), an Orville Junior (also sold#), a couple of Edwards Juniors, a PRS Starla X, the Signature LP (there was an NGD thread for that), the parts for the hardtail relic Strat (work in progress)..... and a Tokai goldtop which I didn't like and sent back.
* at a loss.
# at a massive loss. :(
-
Having read that list I do remember threads on those! Such a shame that you made a loss on them.
-
I was pissed off about the Orville - I didn't buy to sell, but they normally go for pretty decent prices and I thought I'd get most of my money back. It was one of those cases where you have about 150 people watching on eBay, but no-one bids. :|

very nice. MIJ tokai ftw :D

Just checked under the pickups...JEEBUS! That is a nice thick wedge of maple...no veneer at all.

the better lp copies often use a proper thickness maple cap with a veneer just on the surface for the flame
seems a good way to get the right tone and the flamed look most people want without spending big bucks
-
Very nice indeed.
-
Yep, very nice... I was tempted by it too :D
So how would you strip the front? I've been vaguely tempted by doing it to mine (a black one), but I'm worried a) the maple might not look that good under the finish, b) how do I get the front finish off without mucking up the clear coat on the binding, and c) I quite like the black LP look as well as the Kossoff/etc stripped look...

Even so usually you can see the veneer itself even thinly (as on my LS85, you can see it quite clearly) if it there how could I tell Wez please?

I'm not that good Andy, I'd take it to a man I trust, John @ JXG guitars he'd do it properly, 'cause if I did it there would be a thread in no time saying "errr think I may have $%ed up my les paul!"
-
Ahh... and there was I thinking there was a "oh it's really easy, just do this and that, job done" answer
