Hey guys, been away for a while, hope everyone is all good!
I'm looking at kitting my Charvel Star (alder body, maple neck, floyd) with some pups but I'm not entirely sure which to choose. I've got a Miracle Man set in my SG and they sound bitching, but when I swap to the Charvel at gigs it's clear that it needs some BKP's.
I play in a band called Heaven Asunder (http://www.facebook.com/heavenasunder (http://www.facebook.com/heavenasunder)) and we're somewhere between classic metal, metalcore and a whole other bunch of cr@p. I'm looking for rhythm sounds close to Killswitch Engage's "Alive Or Just Breathing" album, and Trivium's "Ascendency".
As for leads, I like quite ratty, middy sounds, like Dime's sound on the "The Great Southern Trendkill" and Synyster Gates' leads on "City of Evil". I'll be going through a Marshall DSL50 with a Boss Compression Sustainer.
Lots of dives, lots of chugs, tight riffery and some nasty squeels. The Painkiller looks pretty good for this, what would you guys recommend?
Cheers :D

One word...AFTERMATH!!! From what you described, you get think of a better pickup for that style :)
-
Possibly aftermath, but I have to say you'd probably get the most out of another miracle man in there! You're probably after something that's not an MM because you've already got one, but I think it matches up pretty well with everything you've described!
-
i agree with Roo.
i did the same thing after being entirely happy with a MM in one guitar and went with the aftermath in my other.
Whilst it was great and i was happy with it I found it always got neglected for the MM equipped guitar as that was more suited to what i play.
And from your description it hits the MM bang on the head

Yep, the Trivium and Killswitch mentions point pretty unequivocally to the MM.

as from i have learned the last couple of days, then ksE uses emg 85's on the later releases. Maybe take a look at a holy diver? - The did the cover after all xD
Plus its nice with a little diversity
-
Ah ok, that's pretty interesting!
I think I want something with a little more "aggression" or "bark", maybe some more mids and a less condensed sound than the MM's?
-
i think you're after a ceramic warpig if you want more bark than a MM

Another vote for the C-pig. Painkiller could be a tad bright in alder/maple neck.
