Looking to get another guitar to play metal with. Looking for something with a flat fretboard and a double cutaway body for upper fret access. Any Ideas? Oh and I want a floyd too :)
-
Gibson Shred V?

I only like the ESP SV and Jackson RR series shape unfortunately. And its a double cutaway I'm looking for!
-
budget?

About a grand! Give a or take!

Gibson Shred V?
Oh lawks! Is that a burnt maple board (or "torrified" or whatever they call it) again?

looks more like gibson's habit of putting black dots on ebony boards to highlight how non-black their wood is ;)

B.c. Rich makes excellent axes these days.
Same goes for Washburn.
I despise dean and esp, so i wont reccomend any of them :)
Some of the guitar i've been looking at myself recently has been(not gonna mention gibsons. the list would be too long then :D ) :

This is just inspiration xD
My next guitar will probably be a Les Paul :)

I had an Ibanez Xiphos, not long ago. Honestly, the best metal guitar I've ever touched.
A lot of tremolo snobs will go on and on about how the Edge III is inferior, but I preferred it over proper Floyds.
May not be the shape you're looking for, but I would trust Ibanez with $700 to give me a proper metal guitar.

for sub 1000 bucks you can't go wrong with ESP LTD M1000 or MH1000 DELUXE. Check it out. Look great in see thru black...

Played a DBZ Halcyon this past Saturday. I thought it was stellar. Didn't even know it was a sub $700 guitar until I was told.

edit: Just checked quickly. They're right around $600 USD. Come with 81/85 sets and an Original Floyd, not licensed.

That headstock should never go on a superstrat. Ever. its hideous. The bodys pretty cool though.
I vote an ibanez of some sort. Of the guitars in the <1000 range I've had through my doors of late they've been the most consistently impressive. The ZR trems are also a stroke of genius.
Dean are inconsistent, as are schecter, dont know what sort of standard jackson are putting out now havent encountered a new one in quite a while (but my MIJs are excellent, but old), ESP Proper are fine but LTD are garbage, and last I checked so were non-top-end BC rich...who did I miss?...Dont get me started on gibson.
Or, better yet, get an 80s or early 90s RG second hand. Edge 1, wizard 1, better wood quality than you generally find in most modern production guitars (the necks were pretty consistently quartersawn from good stuff), or maybe its that they're old and its well broken in...same difference...and it'll knock seven bells out of most modern £1000 guitars for ~£300
....I miss my '89 RG560. Great guitar. But, I love the VHT that I lost it as part of trade for, glorious amp. But seriously, its the only guitar I've ever parted with that I would have back in a second, and I've never met an old RG that wasnt an impressive instrument (provided it hadnt been $%&#ed with or abused).
-
i'd agree with mark regarding MIJ ibanez and Jackson... unfortunately the prices for both have shot up recently.
actually in the current economic climate, if you're easy about the actual guitar and just want a good guitar, just keep an eye out for sales. a lot of shops are having sales at the moment, you might get lucky.

Find a (mint used) Ibanez Prestige. Or an early RG620 (mahogany body, satin quilted top, low pro edge, QM-pickups = they sqeal but it's easy to replace them). Could lay my hand on a 620 for a friend. Not my type of axe, but great sustain and playability. It's still his main guitar.
-
How about this guitar? I've fallen in love with it. And not at all bad for £600 --> http://www.j-guitar.com/product_id44961.html

I really like b.c. riches. So i say YAY!

Would you say the playabilty is good for the price? And how do their necks play?

I've always liked BC necks for moving fast, but I don't feel they have the oomph of a PRS or an LP. Sit it next to an Ibanez Wizard II and I find it hard to choose.

You'd honestly be hard pressed to find a better metal axe than an Ibanez. Their consistent quality and feel are much better than most of their import peers. I've owned MIK Deans, LTD's, Ibanez's, and MIJ Jacksons, all costing around $1k, and the Ibanez guitars were easily at the top of the list. It's true that they'll never have the same kind of tone as an LP or similar, but plug one into a high gain amp and drop the tuning, and boom, instant metal!
Now, if you really want to be impressed, and also turn heads, check out the Fender Jim Root Telecaster... I recently picked one up a few months ago, and it has quickly become my everyday go-to guitar. I'm not even a fan of Slipknot or Stonesour, but thankfully this guitar is not branded as such. It comes in either flat black or white nitro and is loaded with a set of EMG 60/81 pickups. The body is also made of Mahogany, rather than ash or alder, with a body cutaway on the back and a contoured heel. The only thing that gives it away as a sig is Jim Roots signature on the back of the headstock. The only thing that steers people away is that it's a MIM Fender, but honestly, who do you think works in the Fender factory in Corona, CA (no racist)?
And if you really need a Floyd, check out the PRS Torero... I've been GASsing for one of these badly.

Already got an Ibanez...aaaaaand I've got the Torero lol. Got it instead of replacing my Epiphone Les Paul with an Ibanez ARZ800 :)
-
Nice! What axes are you running currently?
-
Got an Epiphone Les Paul, Ibanez 520EX and the PRS Torero :) How about you?
-
NVM just seen on your sig. lol
-
What do you think of the Torero? I've been wanting to pick up another guitar with a Floyd on it, and I'm a huge fan of PRS'... and their SE line never ceases to amaze me. Also, what finish is it?
-
I've got the red one. It sounds a great guitar, but I just don't feel like a metal player playing it haha. The way I use the floyd seems to be completely different to how I use the one on my Ibanez haha. It's hard to explain. But the playability is still very good :) I don't regret buying it. I'm actually gonna stick some other pickups in it and make it my Progressive Metal guitar :)
-
Sounds to me like you should save up and go custom.

Only got a £1000 limit. Got other things to buy and pay off before uni. I'd love to have a custom one made though.

also have you considered teh Ibanez RGA42?
I have one and its absolutely great loaded with a miracle man & a mississippi queen
Theres the trem model too RGA42t i think
Both should be around £350 tops
-
I actually like both of them. I'll explain what I'm looking for in the guitar:
Mahogony Body with Neck-thru design.
24frets
Floyd Rose
Black Body (preferably matte) with white binding
Ebony Fretboard
2 Humbuckers
At least 1 vol/1 tone
Jumbo Frets
Black Hardware
I know I have described the BC Rich perfectly, but I actually had the specs worked out before I found it. But theres still no harm looking around, I may even found something better :)
-
Btw whats the fretboard Radius of the Caparison? I like that guitar besides the fact it has no white body binding (I really want that) and only 1 Vol and no tone :(

Dunno. I have a friend that's got an endorsement and I've played a few of his; they have a really nice feel. Superb metal guitars, imo. Personally, I prefer a chunky neck, but my play style is quite different.
That being said, they are fantastically built and play great.
