Me & my bandmate basically messaged BKP for them to recommend a pick-up for our Ibanez guitars (the same) to play Prog Metal, and our emails were exactly the same: same influences, the tone we're looking for, etc. And my mate got messaged back saying that it sounds like he's looking for Nailbomb/Cold-Sweat more than anything else, and I got an email saying that it's the Aftermath/Cold-Sweat that sounds the best to suit me :S. I'm well confused, haha

Was it the same guy who answered the emails?

Urm...it was Ben

Maybe he likes diversity. You always used to see these bands with a les paul guy & a strat guy
-
Yh true. I already have a Nailbomb/ColdSweat neways. N I'm getting an Aftermath in my Les Paul. Just want summat else for a new guitar. I'll prob just put my Nailbomb in, see how they sound

Well, it's not as if one of you got recommended Aftermaths and the other got recommended a set of Manhattans or something....
At least both suggested sets are suitable for your guitars and musical styles. They're just a bit different.

The cold hard fact of buying pickups is you'll never really know for sure . its all ballpark guessing .
The combiantion of wood, lead, pedals, how you set up your amp and your playing style .add into that what your idea of your tone is in your head and its a complex guessing game .
Bets place to start is to decide what about your current tone do you want to change.
Tighter,?
more/less aggressive mids and top ?
then choose the one that covers that . you'll never know till you try it. but the cool thing about higher end gear is the resale is always good. choose the wrong one then you just sell on ebay and move on

Or choose the wrong one and send back for a replacement FOC (shipping aside...) - even better!
