Hey guys!
some of you may/may not have gathered that i was the manager/tech/teacher/overall do it all guy for a small music store located in Riviere-Du-Loup, QC, Canada (quite a lovely city if i might say so!). i've been doing my thing for 7 years thus far and have had a blast. though i've recently gotten a phone call with an opportunity for working way up in northern quebec. well paid, no expenses at all while staying there.
i'm on a 28 days of work, 14 days off schedule. basically i'll be assistant manager to the dorms where the workers/miners stay at for several of Arcelor Mittal's Iron ore mining sites. and since i speak english (my area is native french so good english speakers and writers are a rarity and well taken care of usually) and i'm young, upper management has plans to train me to eventually become a project manager. it all seems quite big but i'm a guy who's always up for a challenge.
really big change from the music industry but i felt this was quite the right time for a change like this, no missus since a few months, the M.I. retail landscape changing quite severly and maybe i was just becoming jaded with all the constant 'music store' attitude alot of customers have first coming into the store. what i'll miss the most however is all the communication with the suppliers and students too. at my peak i gave 20 lessons a week! did alot of the guitar teching and wiring and amplifier biasing too. it was fun, but at 25, you think about the future, and a job opportunity like this doesn't happen very often in a lifetime.
yes this feels very much like a blog post, but any of you guys work in M.I. for a while and feel like this is just a strange and yet exciting industry? i'll miss it very much, but some aspects i definitely won't miss!
i'll be able to buy expensive guitars like mr Twinfan now XD
and here's how far i'll be: Mount-Wright, located near Fermont, QC (http://maps.google.ca/maps?saddr=Rivi%C3%A8re+du+Loup,+QC&daddr=Mont+Wright,+QC+G0G&hl=en&ie=UTF8&sll=50.331436,-65.137939&sspn=6.011006,14.27124&geocode=FeXq2QIdePba-ylzgf9sU0e-TDGhKLBtSu8dQQ%3BFXImJQMdjZP8-ym1wTmQSiX1TDFEMEVhkyC-yA&mra=ls&t=h&z=7)

That sounds exciting. I hope it goes well. A change is as good as a rest they say. You will have to tell us about each NGD of course.

The very best of luck mate!

Hmm, out in the boonies...
Good luck man. You may want to brush up on your drill instructor techniques, those might come in handy to deal with the workforce.

Awesome, sounds like a big change but worthwhile. In the next week I'm going to be having a pretty big lifestyle change also involving Canada :D I'll be over the other side though, moving to Whistler/Creekside for a while!

thanks guys! i won't be really dealing with the workforce as from what i've been told, i'll be more like a living data processor to maintain contact between the site and the toronto office. a living computer of some sort.
i'm also sorely disappointed at fender guitars. i was looking to get myself a telecaster (since now i have no shop affiliations i can get other stuff than just godin or schecter) but they make only single action truss rods on their models. WTF. i think i may have to go the warmoth way.

good luck :)

The following view of my new Tele contains BK Pickups from the music store in Quebec City as well as a neck and body from USA Custom Guitars. Actually this may be my desert island guitar. And the Flat 50 Blackguard Pickups aren't too badd either.
Build yourself a Partscaster and take it to another level.

if it feels right, it is right.
Make sure you take good care of your friends while your away from home. Don't make the same mistake as I and become lazy about staying in touch.

I'm a bit late on this, but I'm sure the "Bi-flex" truss rod on American Standards and Deluxes is dual-action. Whether or not you like the neck shapes is another matter.
