Title: Pick up advise for a BC Rich
Post by: Dr.Pain on August 11, 2011, 02:24:42 PM
I have a Warbeast 1 which was an unexpected buy a while ago mainly due to how nice the unfinished neck feels.  It's a basswood body, maple bolt on neck and rosewood fret board.  I keep this tuned in E as I mainly use to play Iron Maiden, '80's Metallica, '80's Kreator and AC/DC  I'm after a pup that will sound nice, clean across the range of distortion that's typical of the '80, for the bands mentioned, and works well for the dirty channel AC/DC stuff.

My 7string with a c-pig is great for real heavy stuff but not so great for this.  A bit too heavy.  I have an ESP too that came with EMG-ESP pups from 2007 or so.  That works quite well but got that tuned down to D.  Need to give the Warbeast a job and make it sound better.

Any ideas? :)

Hi,

You set a wide range of tones to be covered by just one pickup.

80s Metallica, 80s Kreator and Iron Maiden = Cold Sweat or Nailbomb, eventually Miracle Man, with Cold Sweat being my first choice.

AC/DC = Riff Raff. With a lower gain setting on the amp the Cold Sweat should do that as well.

Cheers Stephan

It is a wide range but if I can find something that works over that tone, doesn't have to be spot on that exact sound, then I'll be pleased.  Had a listen to cold sweat and got an email reply saying cold sweat as well so that might be the go in time.

Yep, the Cold Sweat would do the majority, though I think you'd find the Nailbomb would cover the AC/DC side of things with more conviction

How would the Holy Diver do in basswood?

The Holy Diver is a great match in basswood instruments, though I think the Nailbomb or Cold Sweat would be more appropriate here
