Just curious as to how the different pickups work in what woods, etc. For example, I've heard that the Holy Diver works very well in Basswood (whether that's true or not), and pickups such as the Miracle Man work best in mahogany, etc. I'd just like to have a database to look back to see what people thought of certain pickups in what kind of woods/guitars. Also feel free to comment on the same pickup if you've tried them with different woods and how they compared. I'm not looking for an individual tone before anyone starts asking me to describe the tone I'm looking for. I'm just curious into hearing other people's opinions :)

The HD sounds good in ash or alder too and the Miracle Man does well in maple guitars that need extra bottom. Just had a VHII installed in ash strat and this one works fine.

The miracle man works extremely well in basswood and mahogany as does the aftermath
the cold sweat i found works well in mahogany but lacks lows in basswood.
The nailbomb i have only found to work in one guitar which was a friends that was
maple neck thru with mahogany wings with bubinga and walnut strips in the neck and a padouak top

I have tried a few combos in different woods. I like the following.
Walnut: Bridge - Holy Diver, Neck - Irish Tour
Basswood: Bridge - VHII, Mid/Neck Sultans (really nice when rolled back a bit)
Mahogany/Maple: Rebel Yell Set
Thru-neck Charvel (maybe Poplar) Bridge - Miracle Man, Neck Trilogy Suite.
I am undecided on the following.
Baswood or Poplar (not really sure) - Rebel Yell set. Worked OK, just wasn't quite right bit awesome harmonics etc. I think it was the wood rather than the pickups though.
I didn't like
Trilogy Suite in Basswood
I am about to try
Alder: Bridge - VHII, Neck/Mid Sultans
Paduak: Rebel Yell set (really high hopes for this)

+1.

I think a rather shorter question is which pickups DON'T work so well with which woods.
I haven't yet found any combos that didn't sound great :)

I have but only one
Agathis with any pickup sounds terrible in my experience

Agathis is like tesco value wood though.

I'd hesitate to put a Crawler (or, probably) Holydiver in an SG or V - I think they'd be too dark and bassy.
Which doesn't mean it might not work for someone.
But another +1 for Cold Sweats in mahogany - works great! :D

Holydivers and Alnico Warpigs work great in light mahogany bolt-on super strats!
