I've just joined generation millenium and bought an ipad2.
Presumably that means I'm now confident, connected and open to change
anyway:

Does anyone have experience of these?
I'm mulling over one just as a basic interface for getting ideas down and generally for fun.
I already have a mixer, monitors, mics etc.
I don't need to jump in straight away so there is no particular rush.
2nd question. Is there anything else coming out that will do the same sort of thing?
I would appreciate any insight that you may be able to offer
Word up fool.

If it's just an interface for snatching quick ideas then there are a few others
The iRig got a lot of good reviews when it came out (don't they all). Very portable and the basic kit is cheap

I use an Apogee One with my mac. Also very portable. It has a cable with a balanced XLR socket and a 1/4" jack socket as well as an excellent in built mic. A bit pricier but there are a few on ebay in good condition.

Thanks for the ideas
I'd be using guitar -> pedalboard -> amp -> mic -> mixer -> something -> Ipad
The Apogee One seems good for me but more expensive than the IO dock.
I'll mull things over

I've got one - really like it. Obviously if all you want is a basic interface there are other (cheaper options) options. Two flexible (reasonable quality) inputs (phantom power, mic/line/guitar etc - much better than faffing around with the camera connection kit), midi in and out. Good sound quality with my monitors connected to it - also headphones.
Been using it recording with Garageband, importing backing track wave files etc and either using the inbuilt guitar amps (haven't found one I really like) or miking up my Cornford. Also got a video out (not HD) which I haven't tried yet. Because it's mains powered it charges the ipad whilst you are using it (unlike using the camera connection kit)

I ended up getting one on saturday.
Only had 20mins with it, but it seems decent.
Just need garage band to be able to import more files now :?
Audacity for ipad where are you!
