I love the Judas Priest style rock moves with the telecasters, the cardboard-cutout back line and the stone washed jeans.

Its funny how this has aged terribly, where as you can look at old MSG or Priest videos from similar era and they look like really cool guys still
-
Can't see the video now, but I think they were actually pretty cool back in the '70s circa Piledriver, Hello!, On The Level etc.
In my early rock fandom days, it wasn't at all unusual to see people with Quo patches on their denim jackets next to Priest, Maiden, AC/DC etc. Of course this was all before "Marguerita Time"....

I'm not ashamed to say I love the quo

you probably recall the 80s a bit better than me Phil, I was just knee high to a grasshopper at the time, but I suppose that alot of people thought Priest had fu_ked it too, until they released painkiller?

They definitely had a bit of a fallow period. They got really big in the UK around the time of Stained Class and British Steel (I remember those "Top of the Pops" appearances!), then they seemed to gain popularity in the US, peaking around Screaming for Vengeance I guess, then it tailed off a bit. I remember Turbo getting particularly bad reviews, although I think some of it is great! I think they were regarded as a bit past it, although (looking back) they were still a fairly young band really!
Painkiller was definitely seen as a big return to form - must say it sounds like a load of screechy noise when I listen to it now. :P
The thing I find odd about Priest is that some people (especially in the USA) now seem to associate them with the NWOBHM, which is totally wrong!

You're showing your age pops...
Priest had fallen off their pedestal for me with Ram It Down, a bland album if ever I've heard one. Painkiller was indeed an amazing return. I saw the tour and they delivered big time.
Painkiller isn't much heavier or screechier than Defenders Of The Faith (my favourite Priest) overall.

Quo are easy targets, back in the day they were a crackin rock band...

Early Quo was a great band with an own sound. Motorcycle-music we used to call it.
-
There was a Quo show on Sky Arts recently (can't remember where the show was). They sounded absolutely top notch. Great crunchy rock tones abound.
-
I saw them live a couple of years ago. I expected to be pleasantly entertained, but it was actually quite boring.
How many variations of the same song do you need?
-
I love this, first guitar riff I learned.
