It's about time for one of these threads, I think.
Mine are my Gretsch "Historic Series" Streamliner and half a Vox AC30. Mainly because they are the only real peices of gear I have at present, unless you count Classical Acoustic and Roland Microcube.
However, should all go well, I'll have a Les Paul Junior this time next month. Ohhhhh yeah.
8)
Let's hear it then, fellas.
-
lol well seeing as i only have one geetar and amp i cant really have a favourite can i!!!!
-
Yeaaaah, but it'd be nice to know what they are, yeknow?
-
well actually i lied i have two guitars (soon to be four)- one washburn electro-acoustic (EA18 i think), a gibson les paul melody maker, and i've recently bought an avon rose morris les paul copy (with no hardware or electronics) and i am about to buy a washburn kc-70v. as far as amps go i have a smelly crate gt65.

Guitar: Fender Stratocaster, bound telecaster or a LP DC Special with P90s
Amp: Either a Fender Bassman or a Fender Twin
Dull I know - but that is the combination I love!
-
My favourite guitar is probably the Zion electric I have now. For an amp I'd like to have a Hughes and Kettner Tri-Amp or even one of their other valve amps. The best amp I ever owned was a 100 watt DSL head with a 1960A cab.
-
Amp: Either a Fender Bassman or a Fender Twin
What are those Bassmans(men) like, by the way? I've never tried one, but they've got this status as The Best Amp Ever, for some reason. I'd quite like to know why...
-
I can't really pic a favorite. It depends on my mood and what music I wanna play. My fave and only amp is my Fender Hot Rod. (Bassman descendant)
If you've never tried a bassman or a good clone, do it. It's the granddaddy of almost every amp out there.
-
how much do hot rods cost?
-
A Hot Rod is about 780 Euros wich is about 580 quid I think. That's for the single speaker 40W deluxe. If you don't have a speker cabinet, go for the slightly more expensive deville with two or four speakers.
-
ok thanks.
-
a LP DC Special with P90s
how does that work out for you? I'm very interested in one of those guitars, they seem pretty reasonable for the price.
-
is this favourite guitar and amp you have, or favourite guitar and amp you would take, if money were no object?
out of what i have, engl savage se and ibanez rg470.
-
My favourite guitar owned Ric 360-12
Favourite guitar played late 50s Double Cut Jr or 76 Firebird V
Favourite amp owned Fender Blues Jr
Best amp played old black face Champ (I think it was but it was pure Billy gibbons sound if not playing anyway)
Best effect ever played with Binson echorec
Most wanted a nice 63 strat or Jag, SG Jr or Firebird V & AC 30 TB or dirty little Fender
Rob...

-
What I've got
Guitars: Reverend Commando GT guitar (HSS), Hofner Verythin (new model with full-sized humbuckers).
Amps: This is the embarassing bit as my V-amp 2 is probably not doing the guitars justice! I'm purely a bedroom player though. I'd love something like a Matamp Minimat, maybe one day.
As for the guitars, they do NOT reflect my abilities, I am a very average player at best, but I read somewhere that your tools should always be better than you (that's my excuse anyway). I think the guitars I have will ALWAYS be better than me!
EDIT: Also my original plan to buy a cheap guitar and upgrade the pickups went out of the window when I saw the Verythin cheap on ebay (well, 50% off RRP anyway). Not sure if either guitar needs a pickup swap at the moment. I think baby needs clothes more!
-
What I got:
Guitars: Gibson LP Std (in the UK) and Charvel Charvette (in the US!).
Basses: Rickenbacker 4001
Amps: No real amp in the UK at present. I'm currently just using GarageBand Sims or my Sansamp GT-2. Got an old Marshall 8080 combo gathering dust in the US.
In a dream world:
Guitars: a sexy 24-fret PRS style with Abraxases (or maybe it should be HSS?), an SG-style with Warpigs, a Tele-style with Country Boys, and an Alembic (the Further, Tribute, and Skylark all look pretty :)).
Basses: an SG-style and a Rick 4004 :)
Amps: eh, some nice valve tone monsters for both the guitars and basses and a bunker in which to play them without being arrested :) Haven't thought too hard about this cause it seems even less likely to come to pass than the guitars!

Right....
I really like my PRS, it's an old one, one of the early Classic Electric mapletops with a 3 piece alder body. I had to swap the original Milcom or whatever trem for a modern PRS one as it wore out...but still sounds great and really nice to play. I've not played another that sounds or feels as good, you'd think it wouldn't be too good, three bits of wood for the body and a plain maple cap, but it just works.
I've just got a Ibanez RT240 body and neck and put sperzels and a wilkinson trem on them along with 6000 wire - it's a close second!!!
My Ibanez RG and Charvel 750XL are great for rock, and the strats great for being strats - but the PRS.....
Amps, my favorite I hope will be the one I'm building at the moment - 2203 dirt and a fender clean circuit in a twin channel with a power stage running 6550s, DC heaters, tube FX loop, mercury magnetics OT and Sozo caps.....I hope it sounds OK!! I want to build a plexi after this one.
At present my '83 JCM800 2204 is tha fav, close behind are the Super Reverb that I rewired and the late 70s JMP master vol 2204 with a thundertweak point to point circuit board installed. I've also got the prototype C7 from Matamp, and that's fun!
-
What I got:
Ibanez RGT 2020 w/ Nailbombs
Ibanez RG 7321 ( soon to have Nailbombs )
ESP MV300 w/EMG 81 and SA ( wants to have some Nailbombs )
Tanglewood acoustic ( REALLY NEEDS SOME NAILBOMBS!!!!!)
Engl Powerball
Z15 Midi Controller
Gear awaiting:
New Ibanez S series ( dont know the model name, just seen pics)
Engl Standard Cab ( v60s)
I will have:
Loads of nailbombs

At present my '83 JCM800 2204 is tha fav

All going through:
1971 Carlsro 60w tube head & 4x12 matching cab +
5w Epiphone Valve Junior
1970's HH 2x12 Combo (Solid State) but loud as hell!

The very same! Made in May I think.
-
My favourite guitar is my 1998 Gibson LP Standard. It hasn't got BKs in it yet, but it will have a set of Raw Nickel covered Mules when I can afford it :D
My most versatile guitar would be my 1993 Fender Standard Strat with a Crawler.Irish Tour/Irish Tour config with a coil tap on the bridge humbucker (very nice single coil tone) and auto shunt wiring in the bridge/middle position.
Of the 3 amps I use for gigging, my favourite would be my Orange AD30 single channel head. I set it crunchy, boost it with different OD pedals for various stages of gain. Works fine for me :D

ESP LTD MH-100
Roland Cube 30
What I Want:

My favourite guitar is the one I have now , a Fender Jap. 57' issue stratocaster early 90's vintage in 2 tone sunburst, its shear perfection for me, especially now its been fitted with Irish Tour pickups :D
I guess it would be nice to have some classic old vintage strat but I want to "play in" my own guitar and make it my own, I want my playing to grow with my guitar, sort of put my stampover it, my strat has tons of tone and character and I can't see it ever holding back my playing.
My favourite amp is my Fender Super 60, I'm still experimenting with the settings but I just love the sounds I get from it, it allows me to get my own distinctive sound rather than just another generic fender strat. and amp sound.
Summing up; my guitar and amp provide all the tone and playability that I need, its down to me now and my playing ability to complete the chain
and get the sound I want.............

^Good advice to most of us I reckon!
My favourite guitar at the moment is my Organic, 'cos it's what I'm used to now and it does the job. Saying that I've felt necks that I prefer, picked up guitars that are lighter, some that acoustically even sound better, i.e. hollowbodies. But before all the custom luthiers barge in on that, I'll point out that if this guitar had the neck of, say, my old Pacifica (which I reckon my impressionable left hand of 5 years ago molded itself to!) I don't think I'd like it any better 'cos a narrow girly neck would feel totally out of character with the rest of the instrument. And if the guitar were made any lighter it wouldn't sound the same.....you get the picture!
As for amps, my fave at the moment is a Harry Joyce for its clean sound and convincing power valve break-up. I'd also love a Matamp King Street for its power valve breakup again as well as it's incredible cleaning-up ability; then I'd want a Gibson GA-40 for jazz, Roland Jazz Chorus for the sake of it, and a JCM 800 'cos nothing else sounds like it.
Or I could stick to my Seymour Duncan Convertible 60 which is a nice (i.e. cheap!) compromise between most of the above.
As with the guitar, it does the job! :)

This discussion seems to have drifted off the basic that's your fave so I'll follow the trend...
Fave Guitar
2003 Fender Highway 1 Start with BK Mother Milks - Love the neck and sound of the BKs
Other Guitars I own
1986 Gibson Les Paul Custom - Has spent nearly 20 years under the bed. Great guitar but don't got on with it for some reason
1996 Epiphone Sheraton II with Seymour Duncon Seth Lovers - Plays good but sounds great
Squier SV Percision bass - Paid £95 for it in 1986. Stolen in 1990 and brought back again 2 weeks later from £99 from a second hand shop. Great bass and very attached to it though I don't play it much and the neck is too wide for me
Interesting guitars I had
Rickenbacker 4001 - Sold for not much to buy food. Sounded thin compared to the P bass
Yamaha SG 2000 - Stolen at the same time as the P bass but never saw this one again. Truss rod cover said SG 200. Only plaid SG 200 price for it. Only claimed SG 200 value on insurance. Found when trying to replace it it was an SG 2000. Very heavy guitar. Pickups sounded cr@p. Guitar its self sounded great. Would love to find a similar one and try good pickups
Fave Amp
Cornford Harlequin - Love this amp especially the cleans. Makes me smile everytime I plug in
Other Amps
198? Fender Bassman 135 - Great amp for bass or guitar. Sounds very similar to a Fender Twin to my ears
198? Marshall JCM 800 Super Lead - Great amp but can't be used in the house as it's not master volume
196? Northcourt Thirty - Hard to find anything about these amps. Made in the UK in the 60's. Valve rectifier. Good clean sound. Doesn't overdrive much when cranked up. Doesn't sound loud enough to be 30W
Interesting amp's I've had
198? Fender Twin - Silver face. Lent to my brother nearly 20 years ago. Never returned. :(
198? HH VS Bass amp - Good cheap amp but the Bassman's much better. Lent to a friend who lost it between the gig and his house.
196? or early 197? Marshall JCM 45 - Sold not much to buy food. Sounded terrible
What I'll have one day
PRS - Not sure which type. Years ago I played a friend's Custom 22. Best electric I've ever held.
Martin 00028 - Tried a bunch of acoustics 6 months ago. Fell in love with the 00028
Gibson with P90's - Not sure whether to save the £'s and get a 1960's special/junior or get a £500 LP faded. Or something in between
Cornford Carrera amp - Like a Harlequin but with reverb, and you can swap valves types
