ah i've been sorta trolling the threads about these on other forums

but no 16 ohm output? that's a bit off, a lot of 4x12s are 16 ohm...

Cute!  Too many knobs, but I guess the layout is pretty simple really.

I'm sure it'll prove plenty popular. Bet it's mighty expensive, though.

When did you ever care about rectos?!!!

I like the sound of them, just never had the need for one.  A 25w version I could actually use...

What's the Transatlantic, $899 and £899 or thereabouts?

yeah i'm guessing this'll be around the £1200 mark, as i said on music radar... at US prices they sorta make sense, at (what I expect will be) UK prices... o_O

Well, that's just nifty. Not my cup of tea, but it makes things interesting.

I bet Randall Smith holds patent on small amplifiers now.

Dyna Watt switching? I see it mentions Triode operation for 10watts or "dynawatt" for 25watts? I'm guess Dynawatt operation (class a/b still) is different to pentode operation and that switch isn't just a triode/pentode switch.

I'm kind of surprised they went with the EL84, I don't know why but I'd have thought mesa would have gone down the 6V6 route.

Cute mean machine. I'm not a Mesa-fan, but anxious to hear this little monster. Selling price around 1200 euro would be reasonable.

It's odd, but understandable. Early break-up in low-wattage amps lets you pretend it's one of the big boys.

So that's why I always sound like cr@p through a Recto. The guy who made it is obviously a tw@t.

Well, patenting other people's ideas has never seemed very gentlemanly to me, in any case

As has been said before : at US prices, it's an interesting prospect. It'll probably sell for 1500 euro or so over here, and that's a bit steep...

Wanted to try out a PRS Studio last month. Shop assistant asked what amp I was using - as they do not stock Cornfords (Hellcat) he set me up with a Dual Rec (why?). Cleans were good but gain/distortion I can only describe as UGLY - if my Hellcat (or any of my amps) sounded like that  my first reaction would be to tear out all the valves and replace them. I have heard some great sounds from Dual Recs but, try as I may, I couldn't get one no matter where I set the controls. (was using it at a 'polite' volume as there were some other customers being served, so would probably have helped to wang it up)

Because he didn't know what the Hellcat was, didn't want to let on and took a gamble.

i actually thought the clips were alright

Maybe that's because I was so down on it from the get go, that the fact it didn't sound completely terrible meant i was pleasantly surprised?

:D You could be right.  I still bought the PRS even though it sounded s**t through that amp (ashamed)

Course, another part to it, is that simply to tons of folks anything ever described as "hi gain" is interchangeable. Virtually ALL tech riders I get for my festival, and we're talking about from the bigger bands, folks that have been about for twenty years, have loads of albums and play BIG shows, specify things like "Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier, Marshall JCM800 or Peavey 5150" - Not exactly similar sounding amps.

I was not terribly fond of the clips. Not that I've been terribly fond of the Mesa's recto clips altogether. The 'rock' clips were a little dull in the high end, and I'm not really after a heavy tone what heard there.

The 'rock' clips from the Mark V clip were much better.
