Because of prize plonkers like this. There are two message threads going on from him, 1st:

Hiya andy*,
*I don't do ebay, so this is via Cleggy's account.
VERY interested on this, pretty much exactly what i was looking for,
2 things really..
1.) the colour thing is intriguing, in one picture it appears to be more like the Daphne blue colour fender did in this series, yet on the other it is definitely a resounding surf green, i was just wondering if you could upload another pic or 2, just to clarify the colour a bit well,
perhaps in different lighting,
if the upload fee is an issue, please feel free to email them to; XXXXXXXXXX
secondly, another picture request, is if you could just try and show the action height, and the straightness of the neck, as obviously that it one of the first thing's I would check in person.
thank-you in advance,
XXXXXX.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've sent some pics to your email, along with some other info.
Thanks.
Andy.

If i were able to come on Friday, some time 6,
and i were to like the guitar,
could i not just pay £350 cash in hand.
this allows you to negate paypall fees,
as i am only able to collect the item on friday,
as i am leaving Manchester and going home to blackpool on friday night,
and that is too far to collect,
and i would rather not have the item delivered.
thank-you
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Seems reasonable, however meanwhile thread number 2 was also underway:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i still have a bit of convincing to do,
but if i were to purchase,
would i be okay to try the item out on saturday, at around mid-day?
also, if i were to win the auction, try the item, and then feel discouraged in some way, although i see no reason why this would happen, i would still be okay to not pay?
ofcoure, if i do decide to bid, i do win, and i do like the guitar,
cash payment is okay? :]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our stance on this is fairly reasonable, that's a no-no. You bid, you win, it's yours. You want to view it, come see THEN bid or don't bid. Come see it and make me an offer and if you don't take the piss, I'll take it. So my reply was polite but firm.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi,
You're welcome to come and try the guitar before the auction ends. Then bid on it if you still want to. Doing it afterwards should you change your mind, creates a significant amount of hassle for us when it comes to reclaiming fees, re-listing, etc. It also is unfair to all the other bidders. So we would prefer you didn't bid under those circumstances.
Cheers
Andy.

His however was not:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Forget everything I've said
I will not be viewing / bidding.

Now is it just me or is he mental? I could understand this level of fervour for a custom classic maybe, but we're talking a very reasonably priced MIM Fender Strat here. We're I in the market for one I'd buy the f**ker. If it's not as advertised then you have comback, but I've been straight with my description.
Then there is the serious misunderstandings around how an auction works. It's pretty bloody simple and all auctions work the same way. Anyhow, he managed to f**k that up for himself. I would have graciously accepted £350 for it. But after the barrage of questions, I have a feeling I'd have regretted it quickly. To the banned bidder list with him.
I really, really hate ebay...

Then again, it might just be me... :(

What a total knob. I had a similar experience when selling an Indie LP alike. I really avoid eBay wherever I can and generally only sell baby stuff on there - prams, sleepers, pushchairs etc. In my experience new parents or grandparents are far easier to deal with!
Saying that I did have one foreign lady cause me hassle over a cot. I clearly listed it as collection only and she won the auction, paid for it and then instructed me to send it to her, I said no and refunded the money. She then claimed she had never received the refund for it even after I sent her the confirmation of refund notice from paypal. Some people

In the main I find ebay ok - you occasionally get utter tw*ats, but I just block them from future listings.
I've used ebay since 2001 and only had a handful of bad experiences.

I wouldn't call that a bad experience to be fair. Just a bit of a knobber. Still that and ebay/paypals butf**kery of the seller, make it a very last resort for me.

This question just came in
"quick question is this a strat from the 50s or a reissue 50s style strat from a later date and also if poss could I have the serial number thanks alot"
Luckily most of the questions I've had have been sensible.

We've stopped it from escalating to a bad experience.
Memories of the Formac monitor numpty come flooding back.

lol Jesus Christ.
Sod this, I'm updating the auction with a link to Fender's site for those too damn stupid to use google.

Again, he was a victim of his own stupidity and attitude. If he'd been polite, admitted he'd made a mistake and asked us nicely, he'd have had a refund even though it was entirely his own doing. As it was he aggressively tried to blame us for his inabililty to comprehend the auction process, his inability to read (he believed he'd bought a different model from the one advertised, a much higher end model, called something completely different...), and his, well, stupidity. In that situation you're not going to get anywhere.
I like to think he learned a good life lesson there.

Me and the other half hav been doing eBay sales for over 10 years and there are an awful lot of these f**kwits out there. They along with the shafting we were taking regarding fees and tw@tting paypal we've more or less given up on it.
However on occasion it's been amusing to rise to the bait with some of the idiots, however I often wondered how they were able to actually use a computer when they patently didn't have braincells in the same postcode as they were.
-
I does seem to attract some very special people.
-
Madness mate, your bidder sounds like he's about 14.
In IQ level not age...
-
i once sold some spare concert tickets on ebay, my only such sale. this guy started emailing me being quite aggressive, accusing me of trying to rip people off, asking how dare i try flogging tickets on ebay. i went and looked at his profile, he had about 50 sets of tickets for sale! at massively inflated prices! so this blatant ticket tout was ripping into me for selling a pair of spare tickets. weird
-
I seem to attract the "I live up the road - I'll pay cash and collect tomorrow if you finish the auction" type. Nearly fallen for that a couple of times.

That's generally ok if it's true... Saves ebay/paypal fees.
-
I've just had a look at the ad via seconds out.
Perhaps the 100% positive feedback from 2417 transactions, excellent photos and detailed description just put him off....
-
LOL, indeed. It's like we went out of our way to be unhelpful... or something...
-
On the plus side, if he's lost interest now, you won't have to deal with him, which has to be the best possible outcome given his retarded starting point!
