I am thinking of selling my Mesa Rectoverb combo and getting something a little more suited for my situation right now. I am no longer playing in a band an find myself not needing quite as much volume now. And Mesas do not really sound their best when not loud. I want to find an amp that can get heavy, but not necessarily crushing. But, It really needs to have a nice clean sound.
What would be some good options I could find here in the States for around $900?
I play everything from Protest the hero stuff through Gilmouresque stuff. The heaviest I go is the sound from Down's NOLA record.
Here is what I am kind of after as far as clean: (the electric cleanish sound) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlab0XVQkn0
Dirty sound:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRA3VgO3Vz0
I play a Gibson SG '61 reissue, a american tele (with flat 50s), A Ibanez SV5470 prestige (with Cpigs), a Warmoth Koa tele with p90s and a PRS SE Singlecut with VHIIs.
Thanks for all the help!

The Mastodon tone is from a silver-faced Fender, while the tone from the Nola album was JCM-800s pushed by a Tube Screamer.
My initial thoughts are:
Carvin V3M
Traynor Darkhorse/Ironhorse (the cleans will get nasty once you get loud)
Orange TH30
Jet City JCA20
And, I'll go out on a limb and say that Blackstar may be up your alley...

You're in America? No brainer : Carvin V3M combo.
I have it and it's worth every penny, even at inflated European prices.
A brilliant clean channel, and two dirt channels that can each cover everything you want.

How about getting a power brake / attenuator of some description ??? - that will allow you to kick the output stage in the arse.
Or, run a preamp into the effects return - you could pick up a Boogie or Soldano rack preamp well within your budget. Actually, an ADA MP-1 would be another good choice.

Do like Hunter and get the Randall RM22 or something else that takes MTS modules. Then you'll have tons of options :D

I am considering the V3m and also the Randall modular stuff. I am also thinking about the Randall Nuno combo amp.

Yeah that would be my standard recommendation nowadays (that I own one myself).
Or what about the new mini rector for 999?

replace the @ with an a as the BKP forum machine thinks I am talking about female reproductive organs rather than the stuff that floats in rivers.
