Title: mills acoustic cabs
Post by: sixgunsovertombstone on September 01, 2011, 02:38:03 AM
I'm thinking of buying one of these bad boys, either the 412B afterburner or possibly the mach 212. Ive only heard good things, and really good clips/comparisons etc online on various tone websites. they sound pretty bad ass, but they are pretty damn expensive too, especially the shipping to Canada and the 10 week wait time for them to build the cab.

Also looking at vader, orange, or engl xxl cabs.

Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts and/or experience with them?

thanks!

I haven't tried them, but I have also heard really good things about them too.

I personally love Port City Cabinets. I use a standard 212 and it sounds MASSIVE.

I don't think I'm going back to standard cabs. The port makes such an amazing difference in my tone, so much more natural mids and bass!

FWIW, stay away from Mesa cabs. I had a recto cab and it wasn't the greatest (or maybe it was the V30's? I have WGS speakers in my PC cab).

Never played one but did a lot of research into them, the marketing on their site make it sounds like they used science to drill holes in the baffle or baffle support thing in order to reduce standing waves (what ever those are) which apparently results in a cab staying tight even though it is over sized, it also spreads the sound better and is less directional than a normal closed back.

I did find a thread on another forum with 20 or so people saying it's the best cab they ever owned, these being people who have played/owned every well known cab out there. I think there was only 1 person on the whole thing who preferred a different cab.

They are excellent cabs indeed, I have used an Afterburner 4x12 several times both live and on recording. They are impressively huge but tight sounding, and disperse sound widely rather than being very directional (like, say, the Orange cabs).
Unfortunately, over here in the UK the added shipping and import duty/VAT make them prohibitively expensive.

Well it sounds like now I just need to decide between the 212 or the 412... decisions decisions!
