Title: tone knob for neck only?
Post by: ronjhoser on September 01, 2011, 01:34:14 PM
Has anyone had success doing a tone knob on only one pickup of a multi-pickup guitar? My thinking is that I just never mess with the tone on my bridge p/u, but occasionally dial it down on the neck to sweeten it up a bit. Was thinking about doing a concentric volume/tone for the neck to give me the option of having a kill as well... all in one spot. Insanity? Considerations?

Just in case, here is the full setup that I am considering for my Charvel So-Cal: Holy Diver HB neck and bridge set, push/pull 500k volume for bridge p/u and coil split, concentric 500k/250k for neck volume and tone, 3 way toggle to output jack.

Sounds like it'll work nicely?

There is no reason it would not work. The only slight caveat I have is that in the in-between position the pickups would be loaded because both volume pots are in parallel. But then this is no different to any two pickup guitar that has volume controls for each pickup (e.g. Les Paul).
