My Soloist reeks. Pure and simple. There's a distinctive smell coming from the case, and the guitar itself smells like it as well.
It kind of smells like tobacco, but not quite. A musty, dry smell.
I got this guitar through a trade-in, so it's highly likely she was pre-owned. The smell seems to be getting worse over the years :?
How can I remove the smell from the case and ultimately the guitar itself?

I'll ask my missus when she gets back in. She'll probably want to know what the finish is, what the case is lined with what the case is made of.
She's an expert on this type of cr@p because
a) she's a curator and know's about storage of objects
b) she's a house wife and I smell

Baking soda? Febreeze spray? Of course that is easier to do with the case than the actual guitar.
Or just air it out a lot, especially on a sunnier day. That is what I do with smelly rubber parts.

i have two gibson cases from the 70's with the same problem, a fusty smell, which the guitar picks up if you leave it in the case. the irritating thing is, the first one was fine until i left it with a "tech" and he kept it in his damp shed! so i too would be vert interested to hear any solutions to this. i have tried both febreze and baking soda, with no improvement. and airing seems to have little effect. i would leave one outdoors to air, which might work better, but the fusty smell is better than cat piss! :)
