Title: Damaged neck :-(
Post by: plastercaster on September 09, 2011, 07:16:26 PM
Hello all,
I'm posting on behalf of a friend who owns an old Gordon smith GS1 (LP junior style)

Unfortunately it was dropped (from a strap I lent her :-S) and now there's a crack in the paint across point where neck meets headstock (in classic les paul style \/ ).

(this is an image of a more serious break to show the location)

The headstock is still attached but tuning stability has disappeared. Can anything be done about it?
How much would it cost to repair?

Many thanks!

PS feel free to move to tech if this is misplaced.

If the tuning stability's gone it sounds like it's more than just a crack in the paint.

If it's a clean break I understand it's an easy repair - although I wouldn't try it myself.    People always say a repair of this type is as strong or stronger than the unbroken neck, but I'm not sure I've ever believed it.....

No doubt Jonathan or Wez will give proper advice.  :)

I see you have a Feline Custom, surely there's no one better to call? :P

the one in the pic is a relatively easy repair

it would be hard to say about the GS without seeing it - all breaks are a bit different

I'll get some proper pics and get on to Jon about it then!

Cool - pix will help

the Sg break you showed would be a fairly straightforward fix
The GS may be slightly different so best to see pix

Glue is stronger than wood, so it won't break from the same place again (unless done badly).

For the topic starter: don't worry, It'll most probably be a player again :)
