Title: Wampler Pedals
Post by: ToonLP on September 10, 2011, 11:58:00 PM
I bought a Wampler Plextortion pedal last week.

OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A real Plexi without having to pay £1,515 for the Marshall YJM Head  :D

I'm glad to hear it . I bought what was supposed to be a Pinnacle 2 and what they sent me looked quite different from what was on the site and it was noisy and unstable and quite horrible.

Here is what I was expecting
p://www.wamplerpedals.com/distortions/pinnacle.html (http://www.wamplerpedals.com/distortions/pinnacle.html)

Rather than having the contour control it had a bass middle and treble tone stack but it was nigh on impossible to dial in a good tone and the hiss and squealing was unbelievable.

I complained and pretty much got told this was the new design (they lied as others since have been to a different design) so tough luck

I think i got sent an experimental pedal that never made it out of R&D and should never have been sold to a customer.

Some of their other products may be good but after my experience I would be wary to touch them with a 10 foot pole

You can see from the guts shot that they were soldering components directly to the legs of the chip - something was definitely amiss here.

I was gutted as I had been so excited and was left feeling so disappointed

Getting the brush off when I raised the issue was what put me off the company.

I hope they read this  because they need to brush up their act

wow. that is pretty bad.

Why solder to the leg of the IC? They've used a socket for it, I assume to avoid having to heat the pins on the IC itself and to aid insertion and removal. Kinds of defeats the point of using a socket and doesn't seem like good practice considering how much these wampler things cost. It does look and sound like a fishy deal.

I see they have just started a forum. Would be interesting to see what they thought of that photo on there!
