I went through my whole collection of ODs with my 63 RI Vibroverb today (by the way JPF - thanks for the hint on fixing the speaker problem - you are a scholar and a gent) - and after trying all my bootik things (HBE Powerscreamer, Big D, OCD v.2, Toadworks Lil Leo, etc) the pedal that won the day was a cr@ppy second hand Ibanez TS7 that I modded with a Monte Allums TS808 conversion kit about 5 years ago. Maybe there is something that makes a TS and a old style Fender work well together - but I am glad it is getting a resurrection as it was my first ever mod.
-
You should sell the rest then :P
No, seriously.
-
I am the Anti-Dave and never sell anything (seriously - I still have a set of well bashed Tokai effects from the 80s).
I also have other amps which sound great with the high end stuff.
-
I've gone through several Overdrives over the years and had a similar experience with the one pedal that is still around being the Digitech Bad Monkey. Sounds great AND is cheap.

Same as Phil X found

Well I should look at that Bad Monkey, thought I have great pedals like an old TS-9, Suhr Riot, Emma Reezafratzitz etc.

I still have a "Loco" stereo chorus from the early '80s - anyone remember them? I think they were distributed by Aria.
I also have a Tokai "Magical Box" which is a really bad copy of a Scholz Rockman.

The first pedal I ever bought was a second hand Boss SD-1 which, as far as I remember, sounded quite good. Well it was my virgin years of guitar playing so it might sound less good to me today :D

Wow, someone other than me that bought a Reezafratzitz! 8)

yeah, i don't think its bad either
edit: my cheap&nasty OD favourite is the Boss OD-1, though I must confess mine is a modded SD-1 :)

My oldest pedal is a Tokai Metal Driver - As a teen I saw Gary Moore use a DS1 on Rock School and lusted after it but couldn't afford it, so I got the TMD instead. A truly horrible pedal.

Actually the Reeza sits already many years on my board. Before I had the old Marshall Guvnor. Not a bad pedal, but nowhere as versatile or dynamic as the Reeza. It hasn't the same exquisit tone too. Btw, the Suhr is wicked straight into the clean channel.

I really like the Reeza, I just haven't been in a position amp wise to keep it permanently on a pedalboard.
I found it too dark with the Orange AD30 I was using when I 1st got it and then it wasn't quite for what I wanted when I was using an old 70s single channel Carlsbro 50-Top. I've not been in a regular gigging band for the last 4 years so never found a good use for it. I may try it with my Splawn for a low level drive on the clean channel.
How is the Suhr Riot at lower gain settings? It's 1 I've been recommended to try for a lower OD sound on my Quick Rod, but all the clips I can find of it are high gain

Big love to the reeza from here. It's a gem of a pedal and I've had very good experiences with it through my Music Man HD 130 and a Vox AC30.

Orange amps are quite sensitive for od-pedals. I use the Reeza on my Rockerverb just too push it a bit further, so low gain/ 10-11 o'clock on the Reeza. The Suhr does low gain stuff very well, but reacts also like an amp when you roll the vol.knob on the guitar back. As an alternative have a look at the Suhr Shiba Drive.

I'll try the Reeza at lower gain settings and see how much (if at all) the Splawn likes it. If not, I'll look into a Suhr Riot and Shiba Drive.
Thanks!

It takes always a bit of experimenting with od-pedals and amp. Gain on gain can choke the tone, so it's the art to find the sweet spots. Every amp reacts different. My Koch Multitone took every pedal, my Orange not. Had a Fulltone Distortion, did'n't work at all. It's important to get the bass on the amp and the toneknob on the Reeza matched.

Well I just blew the week's profit on a Lovepedal Eternity Fuse - so I hope this one is going to beat the TS7 in the brown.
