I was originally gonna get a recto cab, but we start giggin shortly, n there's no way I can save up £800 in time, lol. So what I wanted to know was if anybody knew where I could get decent empty cabs, where I can put my own V30s in. Might lower the cost. I preferably want a decent one, not just a cheap MDF box, lol. Also if anyone has had experience doing this, can you give me some advice?

loads of places. find the lean business website and also check out zilla cabs.
zilla cabs are good and fairly priced. lots of people here have them as well as people who work as reviewers for various mags. fitting them with V30's shouldn't be a problem. you can email paul at zilla and ask him questions about his cabs and for recommendations. he is a fountain of cab knowledge.
problem solved. may as well lock this thread. lets move on.

A second for Zilla cabs from me! I'm more than happy to recommend him. It's also worth contacting him to see if he's got any ex-demo stock as well.
-
me too - my Zilla cab is cooler than an awful lot of very cool things and Paul is a great guy to deal with... 8)

I've always had a Large Hadron for Emperor.
Avatar is surprisingly good quality for their price, as well.
-
But both in the US right? so you can add shipping costs and such. that said, i dunno where nephilim lives.
If you just need to tide yourself over before you get a mesa cab... if you thats what you want... you might just be better to pick up a second hand loaded marshall 1960A cab. they are usually really cheap (£200ish) and easy to get rid of for around they same price as what you'd pay for one. I picked up a couple when I used to tour and sold them straight away when I stopped. Zilla is probably as good as Avatar. I still use a 1960A although it has had some tonal, structural & cosmetic attention.
you can also find unloaded cabs on ebay sometimes for mega cheap. they look rough at times but if you're getting a mesa 4x12 then there is no point sweating it. Cabs get banged up super quick when you get touring, unless you hardcase them, and doing that with a 4x12 is dumb unless your in nightliner or you band is called 'Iron Maiden'.

Another vote for Zilla here.
Their cabs are excellent, they offer a lot of options & Paul is a great bloke to deal with.

I'm in the UK. And I'll check out Zilla this minute. Also, I've heard a lot about Avatar and Vadar: it's just a shame I'm not in the US :(

MJW on this board also makes incredibly nice cabs and is in the uk

I have an MJW 1x12, it's excellent

I've tried finding MJW: Can someone send me a link to his profile so I can message him, please?

Oh also, is there any good places that sell custom amps? I'm in the mood to be adventurous, lol. Not something that will break the bank though. Just someone who will mabye be able to make an amp like the Peavey 6505, only better to my specs :)
-
I wish i had your amount of cash.
a 6505 head and a mesa cab, plus enough cash to get another empty cab in the meantime and a SS practice amp and then to consider getting a custom amp on top of that.
There are a million places that makes custom amps. MJW, HTH and JPF here. I dunno if they would be into building a 6505 though. what would your specs be? I can build you a decent 2 channel amp. I'll charge £3K.

Give him a bell on the mobile number at the bottom of that page. Martin is always happy to discuss amps!

I'm not getting all that, lol. I'm gonna get a custom cab rather than paying £900 for a MESA. And I'm considering getting either a Peavey or mabye somebody custom making it, if I can get it cheaper. I'm just weighing up what will cost me less, haha.

I've just typed in 6505 clone and discovered an amp make called Bugera. Anybody know of these? I'm just looking at Youtube videos and they sound great. But the price seems a little too good to be true :/ This is the vid I'm watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9ghM952BB8

I doubt you could get something custom made that is similar to the peavey but cheaper than even a brand new 6505.
Even if you had less features than the peavey has in your custom build.
Buggera are turd. you might as well take your toaster in the bath with yourself. plugging into a buggera is basically the same thing.

Thats the problem right there - for a hand-wired custom amp, you're always gonna be looking in excess of £1250 (min). Speaking for myself, I like to use top quality components and hardware - it makes for a substantially better amp at the end.
Here's my Hotrod 100, will post videos up later for the Hotrod 100+ (which has an extra valve gain stage).

Looks like it's a Peavey then, lol. I deffo am going to get a custom cab though. Seems to make more sense than paying £900 for one, lol
-
Spoken to Paul at Zilla, and he's recommended the 2x12 Fatboy, which looks an awesome cab :) I'll post a review up once my BKP are fitted, I've got my amp head, and I've had time to wear the speakers in :)

It isn't....
I'll appologise on Marauder's behalf. He got it for an utter bargain price too. Makes my MJW 1x12 seem expensive!
