Title: Suggest Me A Pickup (single coil)
Post by: FrankZappa09 on September 20, 2011, 03:58:39 AM
Hello, first post. I already have an aftermath bridge in my rg1570 and going to get my AM neck on wed.
The v pickups in this guitar are very noisy and I would like to also replace the single coil.
I play alot of metal(pantera, testament, megadeth..)  shred (paul gilbert, steve vai) but also a fair bit of rockabilly type stuff (reverend horton heat, brian setzer) also a ton of fogarty and zappa.

I know I cant have it all, but suggest something fairly versitile with a good volume match for the AM set please.
Thanks.

Also whats this about flipping the magnet for an ibanez 5 way?

for the neck parrallel mode in a H-H setup which is position 4 you will get a lot of hum unless the magnet in the neck pickup is reversed.

Im not sure how you would go about this in the HSH setup as i dont know if it has that mode.

Do you have the ibanez pickup diagram?

No reccomendations for a single coil?

Also which magnet? Ive only taken one apart before and it had 2 magnets in it.

Another thing. If I wire it as a 3 way with no coil split I wouldnt have to do anything right?

yeah i think with that you will still have to get the neck magnets switched.

BKP will do this free of charge if you specify when ordering.

If you do it as a 3 way then you wont need to change anything.

So, i've changed topic name, please someone suggest a single coil.
At this point I'm leaning towards a dimarzio Air Norton S, but I don't have any experience with single coils.

Thanks for the help Toe Knee.

Trilogy will match the contemporay tones of both hb, has 12.5 and will still do more classic stuff. If you want real vintage tone with fat mids, look at the Slowhands.
