Good day,
I am just playing around in my mind right now mostly, but I have been gasing for a Les Paul for some time now.
Thing is I thus far have not been able to find one that suits me.
My main problem is that I love the classic les paul look, but hate the shorter scale. I just need a fender scale like on my other axes. Still I want one to play metal on it, probably fit it with an aftermath bridge to play In Flames with (I am not after their tone though).
So I just wanted to ask if anyone here knows if or where I can possibly get a:
-Les Paul that is as classic in shape (arched top!!!!)
-has a fender scale (or possibly more)
-has a thinner neck than normal
-preferably costs under 1000bucks (best around 400-600, though Iīd like to look at anything)
Best thing Iīve found so far is the Buckethead signature Les Paul studio.
So come on guys, fuel the gas!
Cheers

might go just over $1000 but warmoth definitely do 25.5" scale length.
Depends on how you feel about a bolt-on neck (personally I love them!)
Another option is te hagstrom super swede. I like it but it's not a true LP shape.

I am quite used to bolt-ons. Sometimes I take issue with them when they limit my upper fret acces, but otherwise I am fine with them.
But would I not have to put the warmoth parts together myself as well (I am not familiar with them too much)? Donīt know how confident I am in that regard (not much Iīd say).
The hagstrom might be an option, though I would like it more classic.
Just saw there even is a version with bigsby and tripple p-90 of that....now tripple p-90 could make for a sick axe.

How about this:

Agile do 27" les paul type guitars that are neck thru and have a tummy cut and there slimline neck and i think theyre about $500
-
Really interresting so far, keep em coming.
The esp would need itīs PUīs replaced asap and with the price + BKP it would be over for me.
And the Agile...sounds nice (and I see they do some really nice les pauls), but the problem is that I am in germany...otherwise this might really be an option. Also you would not happen to remember the name of that model so I can maybe find some pics?
-
There was also the Kelly Hayes Eclipse from ESP, they made an LTD version of it too.
-
I was thinking there must be some 25.5" models in ESP's Eclipse/EC ranges, but I was quite surprised to find they're all 24.75" apart from the couple of signature models you guys have mentioned.
Do they meet the skinny neck requirement? I know it's called a "Thin U" shape, but I've heard some reports that it's relatively chunky after all. Never actually tried one.
-
Gibson themselves recently launched a baritone Les Paul Studio. it has a 28" scale. maybe that's too long?

Actually looks interresting, though that probably is too long...too expensive at least.^^ But nice to see that.

No, only those sigs. I think most people who want the 25.5" scale go for one of ESP Horizons instead, which come with fixed bridges or floyds.
I find the Thin U shape on my Eclipse to be rather thin. In fact, it's the one thing I wished that was different on that guitar - a chunkier neck.

Thanks, that pretty much rules out ESP for me then! Shame, they make some nice looking guitars.

I had the same issues but had a guitar made for me. I got a Warmoth body without a neck pocket route and had Will Scott make me a neck and finish the guitar. It has a 25.5" scale and a wrap around bridge. It is also Gretsch orange (like the Marc Bolan guitar - though I had this made about 3 years ago).

That one looks....wow. You donīt really want it anymore, right? Sell it to a mate for a decent price?^^

^ I was Googling 25.5" Les Pauls last night and I think I saw a post in another forum (by our own Wez V) about what must have been that very guitar.
Looks great, and bonus points for the wraparound! :D
But why did you have "issues", Phil? You've got more Les Pauls than I could shake a stick at! :P
-
they dont seem to have any of the neck thru or extended scale LPs on atm.
This is the thing that annoys me about Agile as soon as something goes out of stock its removed from the website until its back in.
They also do customs for around the $500 i was going to get one but the preorder period ended this week
-
oh actually they still have one in the 7 string section

possibly - i liked that guitar
rather nice how will scott had the positioning of the bridge and neck join to work well with the extra length in the neck. it means it doesnt feel as odd as i would expect a 25.5" les paul to feel

Unfortunentally that does not help me too much for the In Flames stuff....needs to be 6 strings if I donīt wanīt to rewrite some parts (also I already have a Dean Vendetta 1.7 which I like a lot).
There really needs to be an EU Agile shop or something, they have a lot of lovely looking axes...but with the shipping and taxes it is not as great anymore...though I would still consider it.
So I guess right now a Warmoth build or something would be my best bet....problem is that I would probably need someone to give me advice and help me with the putting together since I have no experience with any guitar work besideds cleaning and soldering (though I would really like to learn more).
Someone like the mentioned Will Scott...

The main thing was that I wanted a wrapover with humbuckers. I was thinking about converting my 71 but decided getting one made would be my best option. I had also been thinking of a 25.5" scale LP for a while, as I'm really a Strat man. So getting this made was a perfect solution. It is an all mahogany body with a sapele/ebony neck & fingerboard. It has a set of Emeralds and the guitar just rings forever. It also has more harmonic overtones than a regular Les Paul. I think it is partly the wrapover that helps on the sustain, but the scale length really makes a difference to the clarity of the notes.
My problem with Les Pauls has always been with the cleaner tones (which is why I like P-90 equipped LP's). This addresses that and still gives me the LP vibe. The neck is an early 60's profile and the guitar is great fun to play.

I like your thinking - I certainly prefer a wraparound bridge, although there's nothing "wrong" with a separate tune-o-matic and tailpiece. I regret selling that "Jeff Beck" Edwards LP I had - not sure what possessed me to do that. :?
-
I really don't see what's wrong with the Jeff Kendrick LTD sig? That should be perfect for In Flames stuff. BTW, both players in In Flames have extensively used 24.75" scale guitars live and in the studio.
-

I think it was a "price + need for pickup change" thing?
(For me it would be cosmetic details, plus the fact it's a sig model for somebody I've never heard of! :P )

I saw Devil Driver TWICE! Hated them both times (they were support band both times). Guitar looks nice though, plus I like EMGs and don't know why so many people bash them all the time. They have their sound.
There's also this one:
http://www.charvel.com/de-DE/guitars/search.php?partno=2931021557
Says 25.5" in the specs. No price there though.

That's not bad (although it's not very Charvel-like). But it does look like it was designed as a 22-fret, then someone decided to make it 24 without changing the body shape. :?

Yes, EMGs have their sound and place, but it is not for me. Lot of people like them and thats fine, but I really dont. They can be made to sound good some stuff and I can say "yeah, thats a good emg sound", but it is not the sound I personally desire to have.
I really love a lively sound with a lot of mids and not overbaringly bassy... (I never ever scoop, the I rather boost mids for everything^^). For my "In Flames" axe (I donīt wanne imitate their rythm sound mind you) I think I will go with a aftermath bridge. For the neck...donīt know yet (here I am more ofter the actual sound the band uses), but thats another story.
That charvel is actually listed at 390 Euros by Thomann....even the neck through version is just 570 Euros. Might be an option, though I would like it to be more classic.
Thing is that it is alot cheaper then to get a warmoth kinda build...plus I donīt have anyone to assist me here in germany (if only I was in the UK). And even if someone on the forum would be kind enough to order and assemble one for me after I send him the money it would be too expensive....
I really need a european agile seller with a fender scale lp^^
And yes, I am aware that In Flames use gibson scale guitars, but it still is not for me. I am used to how fender scales play and with the way I like strings to feel I prefer longer scales too.

I've fully dis- and re-assembled a strat before with no specialist knowledge and it was fine- just send it off for a setup afterwards for action and truss rod tweaking. Order a pre-wired loom then it's just a case of bolting on the neck, tuners, pickups and T-O-M and soldering the loom to the pickups and jack. Otherwise a luthier (there must be some in Deutschland!) will probably assemble for not that much- It shouldn't take a pro long.
