and more :D

and one more :D

That looks like one seriously nice guitar! I think I would have gone for some covered pickups though, but that's just my taste.

Thanks :D
All customers spec down to the 60s style body, 70s neck joint, Ebony fingerboard with M.O.P inlays. Even the pick-up colour. :D
My new logo is made from Ebony inlaid with Pearl and Abalone with a real silver outer ring and I Garnet in real silver. :D
-
Wow .... that looks very tasty. The fingerboard binding looks much better than on my Gibson SG.

Well that sure is the difference with a custom made guitar, I do put a silly amount of hours into my guitars to make sure they are perfect. Not just in looks but to play as well :D
All my guitars have stainless steel frets and that is the proper Gibson binding :D

I've been looking forward to seeing this ever since you first mentioned it, looks terrific! I like the ebony board, and the frets/binding look perfect. :D
I've probably asked this before ( ), but does the purpleheart retain its colour, or does it go brown over time?
And while I'm asking questions  :
Is it a heavy wood?
What's the tone like compared with mahogany?
What kind of fnish did you use?
-
Check under the bed. You've probably got something made of purpleheart that you've forgotten about :orcass:
-
Classy!
-
very nice :)
-
looks awesome with just the smallest of tweaks from the SG design to still look classically styled.
-
That's amazing. Best looking SG I've seen.
What make is the bridge? Looks really interesting.
-
That's a very nice SG! Congrats!

But no, no purpleheart.

That's a Gotoh 510.
I've never tried one, but they certainly look nice - a bit too "modern" for my Juniors and things, though.

The Purpleheart will retain it's colour if you keep it out of the sun, I'm using Superior Danish oil which has added UV filter protection against sunlight. I doubt that really works lol but the guitar wouldn't be left in sunlight anyway. Most oils need re coating twice a year but this stuff is a lot harder and only needs doing once a year.
The weight is not bad, kinda Les Paul or a bit less, I wouldn't make a Les Paul out if it but My SG is 35mm for purpleheart and 36mm for Padauk instead of Gibson 34mm and although it is only a mm it does make a difference. If you read the Guitar Buyer review he says how strong and stable the neck joint is.
I hand pick all my wood in person to make sure the grain is straight, the colour is nice and the weight is ok, someone making a guitar out of Purpleheart might end up using a heavy piece. There can be a big difference from one piece to another.
The Ebony fingerboard on this guitar is totally black and not stained, It's getting very hard to get that quality of wood but I'm still getting my hands on some first class stuff. That's something the big company's can't do. :D
Takes about eight hours of work to get the fingerboard that good lol, any marks show up on Ebony so it has to be perfect.
Sounds really nice, the problem with using very hard woods is the sound can be a bit harsh but it sounds very much like Padauk which I love the sound of. Nice bottom end with loads of sustain. Good all round sound. My brother has a Mahogany SG I made for him which has a few overtones compared to the Purpleheart which is smoother and more powerful sound.

Yes that sure is a Gotoh GB510UB, very nice well made, smooth, solid bridge. The quality of Gotoh is very high and I like their stuff. everything locks down and it clips onto the posts so it doesn't fall off when you take the strings off. I agree with Phil on the looks but it's one of the best bridges out there and it was customers spec.
Do you remember the Gibson Firebrand? cr@p guitars but you can see where I'm going with this? well the pick-ups anyway lol :D

Of course!
I quite like the combination of black and zebra, it does look a bit like "first ones out of the parts bin", but it has a "functional" air about it.
My SG is 35mm for purpleheart and 36mm for Padauk instead of Gibson 34mm and although it is only a mm it does make a difference.
Subtle differences in detail! I like that! :D

Wow, sex-on-a-stick, that is one gorgeous looking guitar :D
I must have missed earlier discussions, or forgotten the answer to this: am I right in understanding from this thread that this is the colour of the wood itself?

There is some interesting woods out there and even though I have been making guitars over 30 years (made my first guitar at school when I was 12 lol) I'm still trying new things and tbh not one guitar has sounded bad. :D

Yep, it can be very purple indeed:

Gulp! I suspect that I would be contemplating a carpet for that floor...
I think it looks a lot better on the guitar :D
-
Sounds better as a guitar :)

Ask Marauder for a bit of his carpet.

Very, Very Nice.

I love the floor nearly as much as I love the guitar.
