You may have noticed the purge that took place recently. That was to buy Cleggy's (marauder) Stratosonic and to get me some cash on top. However there was an LP thread and a picture of a certain purple lion appeared on it. I have issues with purple. I like purple a lot... Anyhow, I then ventured to Jon's site to find out that he had it back and it was for sale. I ummed and ahhed for a bit, but his offer to fettle the next bit of this post as part of the deal, essentially sealed it.
So here it is. Appols of the poor pics, it's pitch black and that's with a desk lamp and a flash! Clicking on the pics should make them much bigger.

The fettling Jon did was routing a humbucker hole in my Badger and making me a pick guard. Jon's work is absolutely spot on brilliant. It's now been loaded with a BG50 & unpotted Mule. What a match made in heaven they are! They sound utterly made for each other. Oh the reversed control plate is just a personal preference thing.

I like 'em both. Fine choices, sir.
-
My first impulse is to say that the first one is horrific because of the color, but there is something strangly attractive about it that pulls me further in the longer I look at it....my precious....
-
Good lord, they both look fantastic! :o
I love the purple! Normal sunburst LPs look lovely, but there should be more purple, blue and green ones too....
I didn't know Jon made scratchplates. Could come in handy.
-
I'm not jelous in the slightest. They're both lovely.
-
That purple LP is awesome for sure!!!
-
I think we need a get together sooner rather than later!
-
You HAVE to bring those along if we ever get together for a pedal day! 8)
Jon made me a scratchplate for my cheapie Tele, very good work.
What pickups does the Lion have?
-
Very very nice planks! That tele must be pretty versatile like this. Btw, I always like the broadcaster-look.
-
That Lion is absolutely bloody stunning.

What pickups does the Lion have?
Lion has Rebel Yells - small switch is coil tap (at present)
I hope John has huge fun with it

that lion is lush

I couldn't be happier with it. I'm not 100% comfortable with LPs and this I am. It's just right, everything about it. Love the finish in person, it looks even better than it does in the pics.
-
I don't like quilt or purple on guitars so the Lion isn't to my tastes at all, but the tele looks great :)

No worries. Should have a load more pedals built shortly also (got a few days off work and a backlog of them to catch up on)
What pickups does the Lion have?
RY's as Jon mentioned.
I'm down to 4 guitars now, all loaded with BKPs (also got a Fender Stratosonic with a pair of BKP91's and a Ltd Viper with MM/CS and a SHO on a push/pull) and all keepers. It's almost sensible.

I totally expected it to be a marmite NGD. A purple quilt is always going to be a love it or hate it thing. Then you have sticking a HB in a Tele which is heresy to some ;)

Oooh, reminds me, Dipthonizer boards due Oct/Nov also Electric Mistress... ;) You know you want to.
-
Holy cr@p! I just gotta say..... Awesome...... bloody awesome.
-
Like Tom, I'm loving the Tele more than the Lion. Lose the bottom E and tune to open G!
-
Well, that is bloody lovely indeed!! Excellent choices, good sir.
Lots of those Feline's on the page look lovely. I for one am gassing hard for that single-pickup, hardtail Panther thingy.
-
I think a Gogol Bordello quote is needed here: "Start wearing purple"!
Love both guitars very much!

It's a really nice guitar - I'm surprised nobody has snapped it up yet
Alder body
Maple neck with Brazillian rosewood board (we'd had the board over 20 years waiting to be used)
Dunlop 6100 frets
Sperzel tuners, Earvana nut, Schaller bridge
Tell you what - if you wanted to buy it I'd swap the Duncan to a BKP of your choice for no extra charge
I'll keep that offer open till end of October........although it's first come first served :D
-
Nice :D
Like others, I'm not sure about purple on my guitars (although it is a colour I like on my missus!), but that Lion does look fabulous.
The bigger surprise for me is the Baja. I am one of the "purists" mentioned . I definitely don't go for humbuckers on traditional strats, and that is probably pure prejudice and ludditism on my part... But on teles it's more of a case that I did try neck humbuckers years ago and I just could not get on with it (I found myself having to tweak the amp when I switched pickup, either that or not bother using one of the pickups at all during a gig).
But that Baja looks very nice like that and, after the pickup discussions a few days back, I do have a feeling that Flat 50 and Mule might actually work for me.
Out of these two though, if I was in the same room with them both, it's the Lion I'd gravitate towards with my sweaty paws...
Excellent stuff :D
-
The Baja looks excellent and most definitely gets my juices flowing. I'm in agreement with Andy re strats and teles. Humbuckers and strats don't do anything for me, put one in the neck of a tele though and I am interested.
If I made another modification to my Baja this would most definitely be it.

You could always go "halfway" and fit a minibucker, guys. Works very nicely as a Tele neck pickup.

That's how he got me. Evil nasty man! ;)

Well, I can try and console myself by saying I have enough guitars, and certainly can't pull off a purple one.
-
Note the word "try", here...

It's almost like Afghan Dave was in the room.........

awesome :D

1) Oh you dirty man :D
2) If I'm gonna buy one off, I think I'd rather go with something a little different. The Panther isn't quite right for my current band. A sort of "Lion Jr." on the other hand, or a single-pup jazzmaster though...

Ooh - very nice ideas
Dont forget that our pay as you go plan works well and takes a lot of heat out of paying for such things
We can spread the cost/build time to suit your pocket

Ever the salesman...

There's already the Lion Cub, which is like a simpler, flat-top version of the Lion.
Or are you thinking single-pickup Lion? That would be mighty cool. 8)
-
Congrats man, those are both stunning. I love that Lion!
-
Pair of beautys, I remember staring at it when I was a Jon's one day - the top is mesmerising in real life, even the little details like the brass logo inlay and abalone triangle centred blocks are cool + I love purple too :D
-
That Lion is lovely Jon. Hope you have fun with it!
