Ive got a RG2127x seven string that I have an X2N bridge paired with a AN neck. The X2N sounds good for brutal stuff
but my tastes have changed a bit and would like something more subtle. The X2N also overpowers the AN and I cannot get a good balance out of it, nor can I get a good clean.
I had an evo in it before but it did not sound alive to me, a bit dead or muffled/muddy. My bandmates SD-JB sounds very organic and 3d in his LP even through a TS and JC120, where my guitar through a JC800 4x12 sounds two dimensional.
I liked what I heard out of the Black Dog and the Crawler sound clips.
The Crawler sound clips had a very rich clean tone I thought whereas the Black Dogs Classic Rock tone was better to my
ears, also they did modern metal quite well.
I would like to get a singing, thick Joe Bonamassa tone with an occasional LOG, Mastodon tone. If possible Im thinking of splitting the coils of the neck pu to get a strat sound ( Frusciante, Nile Rogers ). Not sure which one of those would suit an mahogany, bolt on, seven string.
Which ever I get Im still wondering about covered or open coils? Tygers? Zebra? mmmmm

The vintagehot middy Black Dogs are great for lower tunings and will provide a nice splitted tone. I think the Crawlers are a bit too compressed en soft in the bass for a sevenstring. I have the Crawler in a swampash-strat and this one beefs up the tone dramatically. Great puppie, but again, maybe not what you want in your guitar, although I don't have experience with sevenstring-guitars

not sure
probably nailbomb, maybe the holy diver or the abraxas
the black dog is quite low output, unless you set it very close to the strings
