hi all,
tommorrow will tell how big a mistake this thread was but, following on from the overplaying thread and the suggestion that a few 'beers' may help loosen up, i decided to put down a lead break after a bottle of australia's finest red (actually, a bottle and a half but don't tell anyone) over a track that i'm currently working with a view to 'comparing' it to the stuff that i normally play sober - for the sake of science.
so here goes:

[edit]
update, here's the 'sober version' now:

tomorrow (or maybe monday) i'll update the link with the proper version sober. my thoughts are that it'll be interesting to see if the 'less aware' version has more fluidity or less then the lucid version...
anyway - have fun (and remember a litre of wine has both +ve and -ve effect)
must dash - another glass awaits!!!
cheers (and i mean it literally) - jim :)

yes, quick on the edit but still 'slowhand' (and proud) :) - still can't do them (whadya call them very fast things that the young 'ns are doin' - yes, noodles :D)
an oldie now retires to bed!! - g'night

:D It`ll be interesting to hear the other version, personnaly i only ever have a single pint before playing & never keep drinking once i start playing i don`t like the feeling of being out of control
:D 8)

niiiiice. i've got an even better idea for a comparison...- get one of those beer-drinking hats with the straws, start playing completely sober, then start to drink more and more whilst playing and then you'll be able to see the change directly through one song/jam.

well,
tried the 'sober' version this morning and noticed that it was somewhat different (both in content and style). not sure which i prefer. (tho' the drunk one does tend to sound as tho' i'm getting lost quite often :))
anyway - stone cold sober:

Having a "smoke" always used to make me better when I used to deejay. Perhaps it is perception, but I did listen back to what I had done after and it didn't sound that bad.

They both have their merits but you remind me of session that I did with a band many years ago where we were under the influence and thought we sounded great- until we heard the playback next day. Good experiment and I hope you enjoyed yourself doing it.

Yeah, when I was younger me and my mates used to get together and get wrecked and make music in my little studio room. Some of it was quite ridiculous - 'The Porno Song' for example - but the guitar playing was always actually quite inventive. I mean, I'm a much better 'musician' now than when I was younger, but I think there is something about being stoned/drunk that lowers your inhibitions. In some people, this means they go wild in the street, but when you are making music, insobriety can be a real boon.
Of course, its still a 'falsity' - you would be using it to lower your inhibitions, when what would be much better is if you didn't need to rely on chemicals to do that for you. I just think many parts of life, particularly as you get older, veer towards conformity and ridding one of your own 'freeness' - that's something I guess most of us would like to get back, the freedom to sing what you want, when you want, where you want without embarassing yourself, or making a mistake etc.
