Title: Squier Humbucker Project Guitar
Post by: MiniLefty on September 25, 2011, 07:01:09 PM
Hey guys first post on the forums but a long time admirer of your pickups!

I have a pretty nice guitar collection already but when i saw this little beauty pop up at my local guitar shop i couldn't say no! Especially when it looked SO cool! Its an 80's Squier Humbucker, it has a few dings here and there but i intend to really make it glow, going to really clean up that neck and as you can see by that reflection i started work on the body as soon as i got it home!

I plan on turning this guitar into a Hendrix Heavy Metal tribute. As you may have guessed from my name and seen in the picture this is a right handed guitar and i am a left handed player SHOCK  :!:

So it will be flipped, it's gonna be a real stage guitar. I just need to decide on the pickup!

Going with a single humbucker obviously and i need something that is a good alrounder but will handle styles from Punk E.G Ramones all the way to bands like Trivium!

SO, looking for your advice!

Cheers

LM!

Don't really have any suggestions yet (the others are better at that) but that is a really cool vibe and axe!

A Nailbomb (alnico) should serve those styles.

The Nailbomb definately sounds nice and from the page looks like it will definately do what i need like you say.

Looking at the guitar is doesn't look like the guard is routed big enough for a cover so i guess it would have to have one of the coloured tops? Is that an option pn the nailbomb?

Tempted to get a new matte pickguard and put in a nailbomb with the plain black metal covers, mega minimalist.

Sound about right?

Or a Tyger-cover, that one looks badass. I ordered a covered (just plain chrome) VHII for my American Series HSS-strat. Just had to file a bit of the plate. It's not a big deal.

I assume the drop in replies is because everybody agrees with Telerocker that Nailbombs would server me well?

Just a thought if you decide to get a new scratchplate - is it the standard 25.5" Fender scale length?

The reason I ask:  I had a similar single-humbucker Squier (but with a tremolo) which I bought in 1986.  Strangely, it had a Gibson-style 24.75" scale length, so the bridge wasn't quite in the normal place and a standard Fender scratchplate wouldn't fit.

You can send an email to the BKP-team and ask for a recommendation. Perhaps they come up with some alternatives. Still I think a Nailbomb can stretch from Ramones to Trivium.
