I was given an Ibanez trem by a friend who's had it in his closet for who knows how long. Can't get a pic up right now, but it has the long string lock screws, a bit of a whale tail, push in arm and the block just says, "Ibanez EDGE" with a teeny Japan stamp under it. It looks as if the knife edges could maybe slide out for replacement. The studs are the locking type. Anyone have a clue about which model this is and if it's any good? I'll get some pics up later if needed. I just don't have any experience with Ibanez hardware besides knowing that they change their trems up a lot. Thanks.

I think the best bet would be to post some pics on jemsite they will know instantly

without seeing pics (and I wouldn't be willing to give you a firm answer without seeing them) I'd say that sounds like an original edge.

I'd agree with that. If it has the "whale tail" look and the saddle locking screws go all the way under the fine tuners, it's an original Edge. If the saddle locking screws are on the back of the saddles and the fine tuners are level with the saddles, it's the Lo-Pro Edge. I've got two early '90s RGs, one with each version, and I don't have a preference between them. Both are equally solid and responsive; very good locking tremolo units indeed. They have different dimensions to most Floyd Rose variants, so they won't do as a drop-in replacement. Hope this helps.

Thanks boys. I did finally rack up enough EDGE pics to make a solid identification, but that surely seals the deal. It is without a doubt an original early 90's unit made by Gotoh. That's good news from what I know about them! Now I have to put it on something or throw it in the Floyd box with the other inmates..... Neither the knife edges or the posts show any bit of wear and he couldn't find the studs so I'm thinking this little guy was a victim of the "OFRs are the best forever and ever" mentality. I just took a quick measure and it seems that they are compatible, both in post location and intonation. Thanks again boys!
The pics finally landed in my email. Might as well post them up for assurance. They kinda suck, but hopefully good enough for identification. Color aside, it does look identical to this one on FleaBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ibanez-Original-1987-Edge-Tremolo-Cosmo-Looks-GREAT-/150658265070?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item2313eeafee

Yep edge original - probably the best one they did - although the Lo-pro is good too
