Well, I've logged on to my iMac today (from 2010) and notice that I have 2 thin vertical lines of different colours running up my screen. I'm assuming that this is something to do with pixels but as I'm not a techie am not too sure what could be causing it.
Any Mac users had a similar problem? It is very annoying!
-
I've had this on a couple of laptops, sometimes you can fix it by opening the case up and making sure the edge connectors are all fastened down properly but it could be a problem with the screen, the driver PCB or the inverter that powers the display.
-
Not on an iMac but my mate had this on his MBP. I don't think it ever got fixed despite taking it in for the "genius" to look at!
-
Well normally you have 2 years legally granted warranty, so get it fixed.
I assume it's a few broken pins in the flat band cable between graphic card and monitor. I had that on a MB in the past (which unfortunately was out of warranty).

Is that an Apple policy? I thought it was only 1 year.
-
Did you take out Applecare on it?
-
No applecare - I tend not to buy policies like that as I seldom have need to use them. If only I had the benefit of hindsight!

True, I was getting confused with Thomann 3 year warranty. Actually if you buy a mac at thomann, would you still get 3 years?

Ian - go to the following link
https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
Enter your serial number and it will tell you if you are covered by warranty or not
If you are - you can book an appointment to see the geeks in Festival Place at the nice, new shiny Apple Store and they will sort it out for you.
Simples

Cheers Mike - just did that, warranty expired :x I couldn't find the original receipt so took the date of the set up of my profile as the purchase date. Looks like it ran out about 6 months ago. Bloody typical!

Actually in the UK you're covered for up to 7 years, the 2 year cover is an EU law and ours supersedes it. However you have to prove its their fault, by getting a third party repair company in. If you win you can claim the cost of the repair and the third party fees as well.
The 7 year cover is with the retailer and not the manufacturer as well.
Look it up details are on most UK consumer websites.
