Title says it all. I think i have 2.000£ lying around for a new amp.
-
What kind of metal? I've been researching metal amps exstensivly for the last month, so I've learnt about millions, lol. This myt help --> http://www.musicradar.com/tuition/guitars/12-best-amps-for-heavy-metal-222150. I'm liking the look of the Hughes and Kettner Triamp MkII head
-
There are tons of options for that price!
I think you'll have to decide if you want the sound more towards American/Rectifier or British/Marschall style.
I like
Marshall JVM410
Orange Rockerverb
Engl Invader
Mesa Dual Rectifier
Peavey 6534+
Some of these are cheaper than 2000£, but I wouldn't rule them out based on that.
-
I like a punchy, sharp tone.
I like 5150's, blackmoores and jcm 800's

How about the JCM 800 Kerry King?
-
i've tried it. but i kinda like them old, used and cheaper :)

Check out the Diezel VH 4 --> http://www.musicradar.com/gear/all/amplification/instrument-amps/guitar-amp-heads/vh4-amplifier-head-220317/review It looks like this amp has an unbeatable metal tone, judging
-
Ill build you a SLO!
its like a tighter cleaner & more awesome 5150 only a heck of a lot more versatile
slightly less gain though but nothing noticeable
-
2000GBP new or used?
Loop needed?
Cleans needed?
-
if I was spending £2k on another company's amp and wanted to play metal, I'd be buying a Diezel VH4 (assuming you can get them for that kinda price).

Hows the amp building coming along? And how much you building SLO's for?

I wouldnt say im building them to sell.
Ive just built a good few for friends.
its going pretty well but im tweaking circuits a lot more and making it more me now i dont want to be making money just selling other peoples designs .
But at the end of the day its just a hobby really alongside my job!
My current build takes a lot of influence from the Splawn Nitro & the SLO im just waiting on some parts to finish it off

Its possible but have you played a SLO? they have so much mids & gain that they can grind and be dirty as far as you want stock!.
I run it for 80s-modern thrash with the gain on 2 on the lead channel
-
I actually never tried a slo :) I would really like to :)
The amp sound i would kill my own children for would be the Fortin Natas.. Such a metallic, sharp yet not fizzy sound!
-
I havent heard much of the Fortin amps i shall look them up.
what kind of tones are you going for exactly?
-
Something like this:

The DAR FBM100H looks pretty tasty, is right there near your price point and sounds great in clips at least. I'd like to see what's under the hood myself. Fredrik Thordendal(Meshuggah) sig model. :)

VHT/Fryette pittbull 100CL or ultra lead. you can fiend em used for $1200-$1700 US
Ampeg VL1002 designed be Lee Jackson, basically a JCM get one used for 400-600 bucks. Destroys most amps 3 times that price
Rivera Knucklehead Tre or II

So. I got a brilliant deal on a Peavey 5150 Mk 1 :D

-
Haha no :P its actually spare cash from my new car :) A Ford Fiesta 1,6TDCI :D
-
have helluva time gettin your amp in there. I know i couldn't
-
you can always tuck on a trailer :) but i have a truck lisence too :)
-
Decision decisions..
Now its between a Peavey 5150 mk1 and a Soldano avenger.
Havent tried a avenger yet..
-
I'm pretty sure the Avenger will do better should it come down to resale, but a 5150 is just one of those amps that slays and I'm getting the feeling you have a romantic relationship with the idea of obtaining one(because you mention 5150s a lot ). I'd have to say the Avenger will have less noise/hiss. Peavey really doesn't do much for a 5150 in that department even though it would be cheap. I guess that's why it is and has been a very popular mod platform. Lot's of little bits to make better/different or play with.

This is the only item on my GAS list.
I have a 5150-II, which is awesome, though! :)
-
yeah, either that or the natas!
-
Some gothic bands play the Laboga Hector (from Poland, but made well).
-
well from the amps you're looking at you're sure to pick a nice one for sure
