Hi BKP gurus :)
i own a Charvel Custom Shop (bolted on neck/Mahogany body/bird's eye maple neck/strings thru) fitted with some DiMarzio:
- Superdistortion on the bridge
- PAF on the neck.
I'd like to keep the spirit of my axe, but i'm looking for high end pickups to get the best that i can from it :)
I've read lot of interesting and enthusiastic things on the Holydiver over here. To my understanding, the Holydiver would be like the SuperDistortion, but better in everything, while The Mule would be as well a better replacment for the PAF. Not sure that i want to carry on the PAF that said.
But i wonder if a full set of Holydiver would not be the best solution all in all, and if it does make sense on a guitar with a mahogany body ?
Thanks in advance for your inputs :)

I was curious about this. From what I found out, the Holy Diver is more like the Duncan JB; but for the Distortion, mabye a Cold Sweat may be a safe bet? I've been told this is basically a HD but with a ceramic magnet, which may cut it better in a Mahogany guitar.

Hi Peter
I would suggest that you look at either the Miracle Man or Cold Sweat - or perhaps Painkiller for the answer for the bridge
These all work very well in mahogany bodies as bridge pickups - the ceramic magnets giving you the right mix of power and tightness in the bass frequencies
The Cold Sweat is very open in the mids, the Painkiller very mids and upper mids focussed and the Miracle Man is quite a saturated sound, not unlike the Super Diastorion is some ways but with athe mid emphasis shifted a little higher as the mids on the SD can be a bit low mids
Neck wise - use either the Cold Sweat Neck or Mule neck will work well
Or if you want a bit more shred in the neck look at the painkiller neck - superb and tight

Thanks for the cool advices :)

I don't think any of the BKPs sound like a DiMarzio Super Distortion. I have a 70s model and an 80s model. Both are dark with quite a bit of sizzle in the top end - nothing which you will find in a BKP (at least not in the models I tried).
I second Feline's suggestions of Miracle Man and Cold Sweat, depending on the degree of brightness you want. The Cold Sweat neck would be a good choice for the neck position.
Cheers Stephan

Cheers - I have that combo in one of my Feline Lions and it sounds awesome , but it'd work so well ina mahogany bodied guitar too.

According to the samples the ColdSeat seems to be a good choice
thanks again. :)

I havn't used a cold sweat or a miracle man, but I have a used a painkiller and I've gotta say they're just killer iff you like the boosted mids 80's metal type voicing. They cut through the mix like a razor. the guitar I put them in was originally equipped with an SD and i havn't looked back since
my guitar is mahogany and maple as well, but it is neck through
