Title: Power supply
Post by: bucketshred on October 20, 2011, 01:39:23 PM
Need a new power supply to power...

Boss TU2
Boss Blues Driver
Visual Sound Angry Fuzz
MXR Carbon Copy
MXR EVH Phaser

And maybe a Vox Wah too.

Budget is around £100, I've heard about the Jim Dunlop Power Brick (heard its noisy) and the TRex Fuel Tank Jr (is 120 mA enough?)

Cheers,

Paddy

this one's £99, or you can buy it with some accessories for a bit more.  it provides plenty of power, 5000 MilliAmps, which should be enough :)

looks like a laptop psu with a sticker on it - you can surely find a 9v dc power supply for less than that.

Well I've just done my extra research and it looks like I'm going for the fuel tank jr. I don't use my Wah-Wah live so I don't NEED to have the option on my pedal board. Each output on the FT JR is 120mA

I did buy a cheaply power supply from Maplins and it doesn't like any more than 2 pedals in at once, it's incredibly noisy!

I've got two of those £29 blocks that run five 9v pedals each, a mess of wiring, mix of before amp and in loop pedals across both supplies and a high gain amp and I get no noise problems.

I always recommend these - been using them for years with a full pedalboard with no issues whatsoever at £22.09 + VAT = £26.51 all in:

I had a DC Brick and it made my rig hum like mad :?

If you only need 9v power, the BBE Supacharger is excellent. It's dead quiet, isolated outputs and it's pretty affordable. I recommend it to everybody who asks. I know at least two guys who bought one on my recommendation and they're both pleased as punch. If you haven't pulled the trigger yet, check it out before you do.

just to point out, thomann has a clone (probably) of the fuel tank junior for 28 euro

I picked up a couple and... er... one's faulty. But the other one seems to be working.

But if i were paying anywhere much over about 30 quid I'd want it to be isolated. If all you want is a daisy chain, the johnny shredfreak one will do the job for a lot less cash, as twinfan said.

I'm pretty sure the powerbrick only exists for the lulz. Over £100 for a glorified daisy chain?

I think the Boss TU-2 can power up to four pedals on its own with a daisy chain. That might be a sollution...

I was feeling flush so I got a Voodoo Lab thing.
I also have a spare Diego powersupply and one of the Johnny Shredfreak things. Will probably put them in seconds out soon if anyone is interested.

All work fine except:

The Diego didn't like some pedals at the last point of the chain, but only if I had 6 chained to it.
My LehLe Little Looper only gets on with the Voodoo Lab. Not massively important as it still switches without power if needed
